.
Two things that should never be put together in a sentence: "Quentin Tarantino film" and "three hour film."

When I read the reviews that said this Tarantino film is three hours....I opted out of seeing it. Tarantino is at his most self-indulgent worst when he heads towards a three hour mark. "Jackie Brown," "Hateful Eight" and I suppose "Once Upon A Time..." all would have been better films had they clocked in at two hours. Three hours? No, Tarantino should never go near that. Tarantino has an ego the size of that guy Space who used to post here. Imagine giving Space three hours to show off his talents? Well, giving Tarantino three hours is far worse.

Too bad, really. I have seen just about every Tarantino film in the theaters and I sure wanted to see this one...but I have learned my lesson regarding Tarantino and length of film. The longer it is, the worse it is.

Staying over in Manchester on Sunday night (after seeing the wonderful Skunk Anansie) so there seems to be a showing of OUATIH the following morning at a cinema just down the road from my hotel (only a fiver a ticket as well)... looking forward to it.

Never truly disliked a Tarantino movie, obviously I like some more than others, so really rather looking forward to this one, but seeing as I've got back problems these days that are exacerbated by sitting upright for a couple of hours I suspect I'll be taking some painkillers half way through...   >:(

I can criticize Tarantino because I am not a fawning fanboy. I see it like it is. Tarantino has some weaknesses in his films...I call them out. I am not afraid to take down sacred cows. Hell, I am a huge New Model Army fan and even I know I can (and did) make the song "Inheritance" a far better song by adding my guitar. I can also make Tarantino film's better simply by cutting them up here and there in an editing booth.

So, I checked out 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood'... it wasn't quite what I was expecting but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.  Yes, it's very overlong, 20 or so minutes shaved off the running time might have made a better picture.  I think everybody here would know that going in.  But... this isn't one about a tightly-written storyline.  It's about mood and character and evoking a certain period in Hollywood history.  The performances are great, some of the scenes are the best Tarantino ever filmed, the cinematography is terrific and, unlike many people on the internet, I loved the ending.  I loved it and will deffo watch it again, but there seemed to be some very unhappy punters coming out of the cinema afterwards... if anyone whose seen it wants to talk about it, post (with BIG SPOILER WARNINGS) and I'll respond...   ;)

Anyone remember 'Blood Diamond' from 2006?  Picked it up yesterday on Blu-Ray for a quid in a charity shop, watched it this afternoon... I think I only saw it the once, over a decade ago, probably rented it from Blockbuster.  And what a damn good film it is.  Trailer beneath, anyone else remember this one?

IIrc, together with "The Departed", "Blood Diamond" was the film that restored my faith in Leonardo DiCaprio, who I really didn't like after Titanic etc.  So, really good film! Speaking of DiCaprio, I saw "Once upon a time in Hollywood" last weekend and totally agree with MR. Although I didn't mind the running time at all. The movie was so full of atmosphere, it went by very quickly and never felt boring or dragging at all. I would love to watch the initial cut, which is supposed to be more than one hour longer than the theatrical release.

Last week I saw Crawlers, which was fun. It's like Jaws but with Alligators and Angel Has Fallen, which was the same as all the other "Has Fallen" films. again, nothing mind blowing, just a corny bit of guess what's gonna happen next...and yeah...it does !

Seems to be out in the UK under the title Crawl, but yeah, looks like a good fun horror movie.

Angel Has Fallen.... I think I'll give that one a swerve, London Has Fallen was truly one of the worst films I ever saw... there's such a thing as 'suspending your disbelief' and just thinking 'oh damn, they're really taking the piss now, this is just STUPID!'   ;)

BBC4 Music do it again,i have lost count of the amazing music docs.they have made. This one about Betty Davis a Funk/Soul singer from the 1970's,wow what a talent, never made it big down in part to her raunchy image which did'nt chime too well at that time. She was far ahead of her time, she should have been massive. Then she just stopped and vanished into obscurity.Have listened to her music on Youtube brilliant,it's a shame her CD's are so expensive,i recommend you check her out....incredible stuff (imho)... 8)....
