Magnificent movie!  One day some Hollywood cockwomble will do a remake with CGI beasties in place of those wonderful, charismatic puppets and it will be shit beyond imagination...  >:(

Also, Phoebe Cates speech about her fathers death... surely one of the most bizarre and disturbing moments in popular 80's cinema?

Seconded - regardless of whether you like Maiden or not, it's a fascinating film and it is touching to hear from the Sarajevans who saw the gig just how much it meant to them to have a big-name rock star willing to put himself into serious risk to do a gig for them in the middle of the siege.

Just watched, and absolutely loved, 'Promising Young Woman', a big Oscar contender this year, trailer below...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i5kiFDunk8

OK, the trailer makes it look like some misandry-laden 'all men are bastards' revenge thriller kind of thing, but it really isn't like that (can't say why because no spoilers!), it's so much better than that.  Darkly funny, genuinely moving and wonderfully acted throughout.  19 days into 2021 and I've got a candidate for Best Film of 2021....

About two years ago I recorded Black Earth Rising - a present-day legal drama connected to the Rwandan genocides. It wasn't the kind of thing you could casually dip into, so I put it on the shelf until I could give it the time. Finally started, and we're 6 one-hour episodes into an 8 episode series.  Not an easy watch, but very satisfying, with enough humour to dispel the darkness so that it's not completely hopeless.  It stars John Goodman and Michaela Coel, both of whom are utterly brilliant in it.
