The best TV show I've seen in years in 'Slow Horses' which is on Apple TV... damn shame as that's a channel that relatively few people have.  If this show was on the BBC or Netflix it'd be HUGE!

It's a spy thriller that is also incredibly funny, based on a popular series of books by Mick Herron.  Gary Oldman (in one of his best performances ever, and this is GARY BLOODY OLDMAN we're talking about|  ;)) stars as the head of a branch of M15 where people are sent when they've really fucked up their careers and are relegated to doing the grunt work that nobody wants to do... yet still dream of cracking cases that might get them into MI5's good books again.

Series 4 has just started, it's every bit as good as the previous series, there's literally nothing I can criticise about the show, the ensemble cast are perfect, the writing is excellent throughout, it's just a wonderful show.  I'll post the trailer for the first series if anyone fancies checking it out...

Anyone else got into Slow Horses?

Guillaume, how about, what are your favourites in French films?

One of my favourite french films, TCHAO PANTIN, directed in 1983 by Claude Berri, is now available on UK/US blu ray, if you are interested...it's a great, sad, moving film, a great drama/film noir, beautifully shot in a gloomy, moody Paris, featuring fantastic lead performances from the late Coluche and Richard Anconina:

Very recommended.

Film, Triangle. Perfect vision of hell. You cannot escape yourself. Very good film.
The longer this century goes on, the more I feel I belong in the last one.

Deadpool And Wolverine.  Funniest film of the year.  And I thought I wasn't going to bother with any more Marvel product seeing as so much of it has been so shite recently.  ::)

If you’re a bit bored with Marvel have you tried The Boys.

Bloody LOVE The Boys!  A show that never fails to ramp it up to the nth degree, just when you think they can't get any more outlandish and more shocking they somehow manage it!   ;D

Just watched 'The Substance', a critically acclaimed flick from earlier this year and I think it might be the best movie I've seen in 2024.  Absolutely batshit crazy film about an aging actress who gets the chance (played by Demi Moore and if this one doesn;t get her an Oscar, nothing will!) to split her mind into two separate bodies who have to live in tandem with each other, only one allowed to be awake at the same time for a week consequently and, well, it doesn't work out well.   ;)

Just brilliantly made and acted throughout, gruesome enough to shock even a hardcore horror film fan like me and even I didn't see the ending coming (which is rare these days when so many films are so predictable).  Totally WTF throughout, here's the trailer...

Blitz, the new film from Steve McQueen (no, not the movie star whose been dead for decades, the director who did 12 Years A Slave, Hunger and Widows, not to mention some fine TV stuff), a WW2 drama about a little boy separated from his mother and the awful stuff in a bomb ridden city he has to go through to find her again.  Utterly brilliant film, it was briefly released to cinemas this month but is now on Apple TV.  Here's the trailer.

Well, 'The Outrun' is the second new Saoirse Ronan movie I've seen this week and it's even better than the last one, a brilliantly made drama about a young woman suffering from alcohol addiction and her struggles to get clean.  Just superb.  Here's the trailer.

'Kneecap' is a brilliant autobiographical film about the Northern Irish hip hop / rap band of the same name and with the musicians  playing themselves in a 'mostly true' reenactment of their story. Often very funny, a bit shambolic in a 'Trainspotting' style  but it might be my favourite film of 2024, you don't have to be a fan of this kind of this music to appreciate what a great movie this is. Have a look at the trailer...
