'One Battle After Another'... blimey, this film is absolutely superb. Nearly three hours long and barely a second wasted, the performances are brilliant throughout (Sean Penn gets the 'man of the match' award though), the storyline is hugely engaging, it's gripping throughout, it's funny when it needs to be and shocking / violent also, damn, I really can't recommend this one highly enough. There's been some damn good movies this year but I think this one may top them all.  Trailer below...

The last movies i saw that i found good, great or watchable, at least not a waste of time were:

Warfare
This one struck me really deep. It almost has no story, there is no score or music for dramatisation, but it kept me interested and thrilled for the whole time.

Daaaaaali!
A Quentin Dupieux movie and i love all of them! It's about Salvatore Dali and it's beautifully filmed, grotesque, strange, funny.

The Phoenician Scheme
Well, this is a Wes Anderson movie and you get a Wes Anderson Movie. I enjoy Wes Andrson movies

WC and WC2 and both great movies, they're kind of like the first Mad Max movies... the first one a gritty and dirty low budget thriller, the second a bigger budgeted action movie that also quite funny in places...

... but did you know that there was a Wolf Creek TV show, two series, both really rather good...  ?

I had a fun time with 'Sisu - Road To Revenge' this afternoon.  I loved the first one, a movie devoid of intricate storylines or character development, just absolute and beautifully choreographed gory carnage.

Now this one is very, very different.  The first one had our main character (a man so hardened and battle-worn that he makes Chuck Norris look like Timothée Chalamet) running foul of a bunch of Nazi soldiers in the 1940s and slaughtering them relentlessly.  This one has that character running foul of a bunch of RUSSIAN soldiers in the 1940's and slaughtering them relentlessly.  I feel this is a very important distinction.   ;)

If you liked the first one then you'll like this one, it's about as realistic / believable as a Roadrunner cartoon and has moments that would have the makers of the 'Fast And Furious' movies going 'oh come on, that's just RIDICULOUS!'... I think you already know if you'll like this one or not.  Here's the trailer, it gives you a taste of what you're in for with the 'Sisu' movies... not for the squeamish.

I liked the first Sisu a lot, so it's good to hear that the second one is also worth a try.

I won't even watch the trailer just wait for a release which fits my budget ;-)

I think 'The Death Of Bunny Monro' is the best TV show I've seen all year.  Based on a Nick Cave novel, it's about a dreadful absentee father who is forced to take care of his son after his wife kills herself.  Starring Matt Smith who is just brilliant in this part, he's my favourite Doctor Who of the new era but  I think this is the best part he's ever played, a truly scummy character who you still somehow feel sympathy for... brilliant performance.  It's a show that's often shocking and disturbing, occasionally VERY surreal and yet laugh out loud funny at times.  Highly recommended, here's the trailer, so check it out...

Oh, 'Train Dreams' (available on Netflix) is an absolutely wonderful film, one of those calm, reflective, melancholic films that really got under my skin, I absolutely loved it, if you like the trailer then certainly give it a watch!  I'd heard nothing but good things about this one and it didn't disappoint... I might even have gotten somewhat leaky around the eyeballs at points...  :'(

Oh, you mean The Game by Fincher with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn? I liked that one and shite seems like a harsh judgement to me..but tastes are different;-)

Well, maybe i shouldn't have translated shite as shit in my german mind..there could be an important detail in the difference, that i'm missing ;) But i really wondered, if you meant the same movie. But the bulk of movies you've got started pretty well i would say and Full Metal Jacket in there...

Now i'm off to the second episode of UFO by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson from 1970. (S.H.A.D.O.  Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation; I just love that stuff!) And that's also why i love the bluray format. When they were producing for television in those times the mostly shot on film and the television resolution and standards were technically very inferior to the source. And this 70s series just looks so gorgeous, the colours, the sharpness of the images, the music...just beautiful.
I've already seen Gerry Andersons Space:1999 on bluray, what a blast for me and now it's UFO time..

Here is a cool summary of UFO:

I have to say that I utterly love American Psycho... but it might have something to do with how familiar I am with the original novel.  Now that book is, without a doubt, one of the most disturbing, shocking books ever written (seriously, some of the chapters are so mind-blowingly horrific that I don't dare to describe them here   :-X )... so I just love the way they turned the story into a somewhat black comedy where the lead character is something of a dumb idiot (with more than a little Alan Partridge about him  ;D ) and Christian Bale puts in one of the best performances I've ever seen.

Now excuse me, I have to return some videotapes.   ;)
