what Film / TV are you watching RIGHT NOW

I popped over to Manchester today for a couple of things and had a spur-of-the-moment trip to see a movie called 'Normal' that I'd heard great things about... and I concur with those great reviews. You could describe it as Fargo meets Hot Fuzz with a bit of Assault On Precinct 13 thrown in, we've got Bob Odenkirk  (Better Call Saul / Breaking Bad) carrying on with his new action movie career after the 'Nobody' movies, the story of a sheriff who gets a temporary gig at a town called Normal, starts to suspect his predecessor was murdered and then, wow, stuff gets proper crazy after that... 

I was drawn to it because it's the new one by one of my fave British directors working today, Ben Wheatley, you might not be familiar with the name but he directed the likes of A Field In England, Free Fire, Sightseers, In The Earth, High Rise and my fave British horror movie of the 21st century, Kill List (damn, that's a bonkers watch right there)... I'd certainly recommend 'Normal'.

Firstly totally agree with M R I am also a big fan of Ben Wheatley.............

As regards to what i am watching now..............late to the party again i am binge watching ''Toast Of London''..it passed me by first time round,but i have just become an owner of one of these new fangled smart TV's with loads of different offerings (mostly shite) IMHO..........also watched the ''Bergerac'' reboot which i enjoyed,parts of which are filmed here in sunny Jersey.....in one scene you can see the roof of my flat ...........

Best film of the year so far (imho)... the huge horror hit Obsession.  A classic example of how a great horror film isn't about the blood and the gore and the special FX.  It's about the storyline and the performances and the emotion, all of which makes the horror bits strike so much harder.  A bit of a retelling of the whole 'Monkeys Paw' scenario, a guy who is desperately in love with a girl and uses some magical device to win her love and, damn, things get crazy and disturbing right from the off!  I won't say any more than that (no spoilers!) but this film blew me away, clearly it did the same with other seeing as it cost just $750,000 to make and has grossed nearly $400 million

HEAT (Michael Mann, 1995):

I saw HEAT yesterday in theaters, the second time I'd seen it on the big screen; the first time was 30 years ago—how time flies! There were about sixty people at the screening (in a 162-seat theater), and lots of young people discovering the film for the first time, so it was cool! The film still feels contemporary. I really like Amy Brenneman, Val Kilmer (RIP), Tom Sizemore (RIP), and De Niro is magnificent in this film. As Tarantino said, De Niro deserved an Oscar nomination for this film. I love the opening scene, the first action scene, Pacino and his team watching De Niro's face being "scanned" on the screen , the hotel, and the planes at the end (a nod to the end of "Bullitt"?), but my favorite scene is still that incredible, ethereal moment when Amy Brenneman and De Niro are in the car at the end, answering Jon Voight's call...
