Trad songs

Years ago I asked here about the origins of Mermaid Song which was in the end of B-side at White Coats EP. You know the sing-along song.

Would be curious to know if there are ANY other song(s) labeled as traditional ("trad") song that NMA have played... Do you guys & gals know if there has been any of those anthems in their gig lists ever? ANy other sailing or kids' songs? I can't recall any other contributors to songs than the band members themself.

Mermaid Song... Oh one of the big favourites ever... Remember someone told how he saw once when Sullivan, Heaton and Morrow sang it together as an ending song at some gig. Wow...

The Mermaid Song was performed (in it's entirety) a few times in 1987.

To my knowledge the only non-members that have contributed towards songs are Joolz and Ashley Cartwright. Various session players might be included if one considers their input over a long period of time eg Mark Feltham and Ed Alleyne-Johnson

Good source. But, how is it that the information at the above mentioned site says it could be found on All of This "The Live Rarities" album? I have the CD but the song's not there. Or did I miss something now?

Its at the end of 'All of This', hidden after some dead air after the last track mate....or at least it is on my copy!

Usually these questions originate with someone who has downloaded the album from a torrent. I'm NOT saying that Rusco downloaded this album, rather that he has never played the whole CD.

Yes the song is definitely on the end of my cd though i couldn't tell you the last time i played it all
If i remember right they mention barber shop trio and long hair
Always found it strange that Justin should include the version of liberal education where he starts to sing the wrong words

I doubt EMI consulted the band when they compiled 'All of This'. It's such an anomaly in their catalogue, especially after EMI included live tracks on the 2005 re-issues.

Man, my boozed memory makes its tricks far too often (=every day). I realized it indeed was there too after the post later on while I was unloading a container and couldn't access the site due to its recent errors with server. And you hurried to torrents really?

I've always thought some of NMA's songs sound like they could be pretty well some old traditional folk songs. SUNSET for example. I could easily imagine there 3 acoustic guitars more, violins and feet stomping the floor of old barn house, while everyone are dancing. But of course it depends on a person what imaginations you get. Although there are quite many folky instruments already, it's still a bit more 'rock' type of song and there's the thin line that makes NMA exceptional because they don't have to underline their influences: no need to make cheap tricks and try to give something what would be evident.

Another piece is GHOST TRAIN from Justin's solo career that could easily fit to children's song or lullaby section despite the lyrics.
