Music that you dislike
« on: June 14, 2014, 02:30:19 PM »
Are there any types of music or artists that you do not like at all?
Or bands that you should like based on your musical preference but you just don't?
I don't mean the obvious like One Direction, I mean true artists who actually write their own songs.

I listen to a lot of different music, I´m not a friend of classic, opera or free jazz, but I really dislike something, that`s called in Germany Volksmusik, Musikantenstadl (that`s not folk music!), Schlager (that`s not popmusic!) with german lyrics about " I love him/her, but he/she doesn`t or live is great/bad because of love - mostly solo artists
and I dislike a lot of german bands with the kind of lyrics "the world is a bad place, my life is a torture, I feel soo bad, because he/she/the world doesn`t understand me" - kindergarten themes and not about real problems

and yes, to mention a name of a special dislike: D. Bohlen  ;D
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

If I'm fair I do not dislike any kind of music. While others may be disturbed about stuff you hear on the radio, it (music) doesn't bother me. There are lots of stuff that do NOT make an impression on me in anyway, but I still can listen to them. I could even to think about the song and its contents.

I tend to like to listen something all the time, whether I'm outside doing something, woke up and need some background "noise", news, whatever or driving a car... But when I'm in need of some particular artist I really DO like; I don't want anything to come to disturb it. That's a sacred moment for me.

In general, that tells a lot of what kind of person I am.

OK... I not keen on Bob Dylan.  Yes, the odd song I like (Tangled Up In Blue, for example), but otherwise, it's a struggle...

This makes me laugh, though...

Personally, I can't listen to any thing that is only screaming. I am not talking about passionate, angry music but just screaming. In the 2,000s a genre surfaced called "Screamo" and it is exactly what it sounds. I can not listen to that, it does nothing for me. I can't say that I dislike all metal, some is wonderful, but Metallica and other bands are a turn off for me.

I could list a lot of bands that are a musical turn off but it may piss people off. I have learned that people can be ultra-sensitive about their favorite bands.

I am always listening to some sort of music too. Certain bands/ Songs/ albums can feel like a spiritual moment.
6 or so years ago (When I first heard NMA) is was like that.  Just recently i heard a band called "The National" for the first time and it was slightly similar but not quite as powerful.

When I love music or a certain artists, I tend to really, really love them. If i dislike the music, i can feel the exact opposite. Of course the majority of music is the in middle but certain things make me feel passion in either a fantastic way or to the point where listening to it seems like torture.

I love music and talking about it.

I try not to dislike anything each to their own and all that.
But 1 type of music that i dislike most is that happy hardcore you know where they have took a song and basically speeded it up with really fast bpm drums and it sounds like the chipmunks on helium, i just think Gawd where is talent and skill in that luckily you don't seem to get as much of it these days.

OK. Coldplay.  ******* Coldplay, every time...

I really do not understand the appeal of this band.  Yes, there is the odd song, here and there, that I quite like... 'The Scientist' is a nice ballad, 'Viva La Vida' reminds me of a fun night I had in Chicago and 'Clocks' has a good piano / guitar tune... but beyond that, I'm struggling. Yet they're probably the biggest band in the world right now!

One direction... don't like them at all, but they're aimed at 12 year old girls and I'm (obviously) not one of them, but 12 year old girls are people too and they deserve the music that makes them happy.  Likewise, Westlife... can't stand them but my Mum loves them, so fair enough!

Coldplay seem to have taken over as the new U2, the stadium and of choice for people who really aren't that much into music... I know a lot of people hate U2, but at least their stuff sounds like it has some guts behind it(Achtung Baby is a terrific album and I really like 'Where The streets Have No Name' and 'Bullet The Blue Sky'... and 'With Or Without You' is a superb ballad) but Coldplay seem to have taken that blueprint and drained every last drop of bollocks and 'passion' out of it, serving up a setlist of dreary, whiny-assed crap that, for me, goes into one ear and dribbles out of the other, leaving nothing in the memory other than 'damn, I hate Coldplay'...

But if you're still not convinced, read this, the funniest music review I ever read, all about their new album...

I see. In start of millenium there was a huge promotion work for them. A totally overproduced band I think. They even got some ugly merchandise in newspapers during the Iraq war when it was said that the soldiers had a pause at battlefields and they could listen to...Coldplay...inside the tanks. Really.  >:(
