Does anyone know of any cheap places to get food in any of the cities in Sweden? I don't drink so not worried about that. I keep hearing about how expensive Sweden is.

Rusco, I asked a friend who knows Göteborg, and she said "Andra långgatan" (which means basically "second longest road") has a lot of pubs.

Amandistan, we have some supermarkets here, and in all of them you can get some bargains (if you´re flexible), but for a generally cheaper supermarket look out for "Willys".
Food in restaurants is usually quite expensive (good you didn´t start me on the beer prices...). But there is a swedish burger brand (Max), which is presumably the most affordable source of ready-to-eat food, perhaps with "Sybilla" (<-- but I´ve never eaten there).

I plan on fasting for a few days then. Or bringing a large bag of food from Germany. I don't understand why they have to make everything so expensive. How do the poor and unemployed even survive?

If you live in an country and you are poor or unemployed - you have a place to stay, not forced to buy meals and drinks in a restaurant (because you don`t have enough money to travel or tickets for x gigs a month, but enough money to buy food)
A lot of germans are travellingwitha large bag of food in their cars - and a lot of scandinavins come to the north of germany only for some hours to buy as much beer or other drinks as they can affort or is allowed

Here's a tip for you, eat at lunchtime, look out for places advertising "Dagens Lunch" which normally includes a hot main meal (a choice of 4 or 5 dishes), a drink, a salad buffet, bread and butter and Tea or Coffee...sorted.

Oh yes, "Dagens lunch", totally forgot about that! That´s usually really a good bargain
And don´t forget to refill you coffee cup, which is usually included.

I am sorry, Amandistan, if my post sounded that you´d have to starve for a few days - I intended the opposite, actually. You´ll find for instance ready-made salads with pasta or bulgur or such in the supermarkets for round 60 SEK. Personally, I buy my food for the whole week for around 300 SEK, which are round 33 €.

So, food is really not the most expensive part here in Sweden. Just don´t bring your car to a garage or ask the vet to attend to your animal after 17h (or such). Some stuff is even cheaper to buy here than in Middle Europe - used cars, for instance.

Oh, A. Enturin, thanks a lot! But unfortunately I have to tell ya we are doing just the Stockholm's Göta Källare gig. Me & Minna are spending 3 days there. You come over with a car from Uppsala and spend a night somewhere? I think that we will meet with Jsyirish and his friend somewhere before the gig.

For everyone joining the gig and possibly looking for a hotel from Stockholm; I have to recommend a sailing ship hotel called Ånedin Hostel which resides in Old Town at the coast/harbour. Their morning breakfast is quite good and a price for a night for two is nearly half to that compared what it costs in "real" hotels - even if you book a deluxe room. The area of the coast is also quite peaceful and there's not so much noise from the streets. It's only 25 minutes walk to Gota Källare.

Will be going by car to the outskirts of Stockholm and from there via Tunnelbanan / Pendeltåg and driving home after the gig, it´s only round an hour north were I live.

Me and a couple of Gothenburg locals have been discussing a meet up place for Tuesday, so have had a look round and have decided on a good option. "Jerntorgets Brygghus" - at Järntorget. Meeting from 18:30hrs. Good beer and food, there's also plenty of eating places around here and on neighbouring Andra Långatan. If you're short on cash there's some chain places like Burger King and Netto close by. It's 5 minutes walk from the venue. Hope to see some of you there, it's a really good city to spend time in
