What are your fears?
« on: September 13, 2014, 09:28:46 AM »
What are your biggest fears?

 Rejection.
to live and eventually die all alone
Being in large groups of people
Public speaking
forced conversation to total strangers
Being the center of attention
driving in really heavy rain
Roaches and other insects
Aggressive, mean and loud people
Confrontation
Wasps
Sexual assault and being harmed physically

Like with everyone most of these come from past experiences. I think at a young age this is how our fears for the rest of our lives develops. Our minds are forever influenced by our early childhoods and out fears are born.

Being the center of attention

Well I found this as the nearest. If there's a case I should make a speak to a very large group or something, making an essay or whatever I loose the point totally. But what is funny I've seen that people didn't see that I "was" shaking and confused.

On the other hand that one being harmed physically or being abused sexually is of course a frightening situation to everyone of us.

But my biggest fear would be a point where the friends that I trust betray me. I actually haven't had the situation never but in my childhood, I think so.

'Being the centre of attention'... hell, I'll be the one in Nottingham on Dec 13th with a big silver helium balloon tied to my neck with MASTER RAY IS HERE and a downwards-pointing arrow...  ;D

Joking aside... I might come across as a cocky bugger, but I have so many issues, it isn't even funny.  I was the scrawny, bullied kid during my schooldays who had very few friends and didn't even get a girlfriend until he was 19.  Anything that reminds me of the sad little bugger that I was as a kid sets my stomach churning.

My other fear is becoming real old, ill and helpless.  My Grandad died, aged 97, at Christmas a couple of years ago.  He was my role model, a man who absolutely nobody had a bad word to say about, always smart and intelligent and just a lovely fella... and he died after a couple of years of multiple strokes that left him in an utterly wretched state.  I'd rather have a huge heart attack in my 60's and just drop down dead (like my Uncle Sid did) than stretch it out to that awful scenario...   :'(

(pause...)

I'm also not keen on heights or spiders.

Rah! Rah! Rah! We're going to smash the oiks!

My father's brother had a Parkinson's disease. Father went to a doctor to find out if it's in our generic.
It seems not to be. When I was a child I remember him being stable at the kitchen while it was lunch time.
It was very strange. You had to go in front of him and say 'hello' and wave your hand. He could make some voice but couldn't say anything that make sense. But what was scary was that the disease took only few years to go to that state. It was -83 he was diagnosed with the disease and -87 he died.

Wow. People, fears are usually unfounded and hold us back from enjoying our short time here on earth. Course I have the odd worry, I hate flying for example, but it don't stop me flying!

Relax, stop worrying and enjoy the sunshine!  :)

Fears? No don't have them anymore.

Don't get me wrong too often I feel afraid, intimidated, scared or vulnerable and don't get me started on shyness - I'm cripplingly shy in social situations. I'm old enough and lined enough to understand what death, illness, sadness and general bad shit is like.  I'd like to believe that I'm also fairly well read and informed about the wider dangers and threats to us all and the consequences of a changing climate.

But for something to be a fear you have to carry it with you. You have to let it come along for the ride as an ever-present looming possibility. Bad shit can and will happen. Often. Wasting time and energy on fear will leave you tired when the bad shit does happen. It's pointless and futile.

If that sounds sanctimonious it's not. I said I don't do fear - that was a lie. Of course it was. I still struggle with mine but I'm fucked if I'll dignify them by saying so.

reverse psychology then anna

be afraid of being afraid

i do like the not dignifying fears

but some are just instinctive and we always spend time insulating or preventing them

i think its just as important to recognise anxiety for what it is and try to deal with the matters that cause it

you're just the walking fucking dead.

Totally dude and that's the only way to deal with fear. However for many there are lots of fears to be beaten and it's not a one off battle, more of a long term attrition thing. Each individual victory is just a little step on the road and should be celebrated. This world bombards us with negative messages and I sometimes I get animated enough to try and put the other way of looking at things. Sometimes I even believe it myself  :-*
