Giving blood
« on: September 17, 2014, 07:35:35 PM »
I was lying on the bench at the blood donation clinic today when one of the nurses came up to me and asked "Why aren't you wearing clogs, then?".

It took me a second to work out that she was referring to the NMA t-shirt I was wearing!

Turns out she was a lifelong fan herself.  To paraphrase Justin, "We are f*cking everywhere, mate!".

Wearing an NMA T-shirt is like throwing your colours out there and seeing who salutes them... it's like a badge of honour.   :D

i was in a vfw bar playing pool with a mate of ten years ago. i was wearing an nma tee and this 80 odd year old man stop me on the way back from the jacks and asked "which division are you in son", and i said in the new model army division and he said "must be new, don't think i've heard about them before"

then 2 years ago passing through atlanta airport going out of clearance this young lady from homeland security read my passport and as i walked away she was looking at another nma tee on me and she shouted "thank you sir, thank you for risking your life to keep our country and its people safe"

I have never run into anyone who has even heard of NMA.
Most people are not interested in the T-shirt however they have likes the art-work on some.
Where I'm from is not my home, and neither's where i'm bound.

A mate of mine (Hi, Dan!) was in the US last year, wearing an NMA Tshirt, and some crazy homeless guy approached him, thinking he was part of some militia cult (not the Christian variety  ;) )

Yes, wearing an NMA t-shirt certainly does get you mostly no response at all, but just occasionally someone will nod at you in the street or talk to you at a gig based on your chest-warmer.

I wear NMA shirts quite a lot and apart from a few friends who know who they are it's only on a rare occasion I get a knowing nod or comment

As for the original post, I congratulate you on donating blood.

I'm a platelet donor and donate if my shifts permit every 2 weeks, did my 469th donation a week last Wednesday
Is is a crime to believe in something different?

I meant what I said at the time that I said it

Well done - that's fantastic!  I'm on 20 units of blood, and trying to reach a target of 80.
