Space
« on: September 19, 2014, 11:39:13 PM »
This has been bugging me for ages. I got this tape that was circulating just before the release of Impurity which has all the finished mixes and b-sides plus a A Far Better thing and the acoustic version of Luhrstaap on it. I think it was called the 'Impurity Studio Tape or something like that and I remember feeling very important and 'in the know' back then. Anyway, the interesting thing is that the version of Space has a male voice doing Joolz's spoken word part. Otherwise it's identical to the Impurity version.

Does anyone know more about this? I'd be happy to share it but I have no idea how to get a cassette into the internet, if you know what I mean.

The omniscient Peter Zych has an explanation on his site http://128.130.177.2/~zych/privat/nma/cdr/impurity-demos/index.htm:

"Spoken words on 'Space' done by a male voice. I asked Justin about this fact and here is his answer:

It was a professional actor whose name I have long since forgotten, a friend of an associate of Joolz - done because I wanted a voice from outside the band to read this section and I originally felt that it should be a male voice. However we didn't love the result, so we asked Joolz to do it as she is such an emotional reader. Of course I am biased, so we left the final decision of which to use to Pat Collier, our producer at the time. He also loved Joolz' version and so it was chosen to be on the album. I had long since forgotten that there was any other...

Best wishes,
Justin"

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Would be good if nma would put a cd of demos more lost songs etc. Would be interesting to hear some of this stuff. Though i believe most of old tapes etc were lost in the fire a few years ago.

Space is a truly truly wonderful song. Its the kind of song you can listen to after not having heard it for a while, and be reminded why you are dedicated to this bands work.

Anyone remember when Space was last played live?  Love to hear that one again... a not-so-subtle hint to the lads if they happen to be reading this and trying to work out the Nottingham setlist...  ???
