What you doing for New Year?
« on: December 29, 2014, 08:56:26 PM »
Me... **** all and happy about it!

I haven't done 'New Year' for several years.  A friend of mine said that 'new years eve is for amateurs' and I couldn't agree more.  People who don't usually go out but do so because it's expected of them, then drink too much and fall out, etc, etc...

it's a takeaway and a movie for me, then watching fireworks explode over the Cheshire plain from my kitchen window (as I've done, religiously, for the past few years)... but do YOU have something great planned?

 ???

We'll go to my wife's parent's summer cottage. It's at a coast of a lake called Kyyjärvi (Viper Lake in English). Planning to wake up at 4:00 AM on Wednesday and drive the 450km's it's going to take. I have the 31th of Dec and second of Jan free from work, so we've a 5 days vacation. Going to spend it there at the cottage. Will just have to buy enough food and drinks there. Wife's parents will arrive there on Sat so we'll gonna prepare some food, chop some wood for sauna etc.

Oh how i fckin hate new year it always brings back bad memories of relatives getting pissed and my mum cracking up at them because she wanted something different. Being Scottish you get the old traditional crap wheeled out every year rabbie burns Kenneth McKellar Andy Williams etc etc. I'm going to do my now traditional things a few Budweisers and jager bombs stick on my 30th anniversary nma dvd and bring in the bells with Justin and boys , canny beat it  !

Hate it too, mate... can you believe a pal of mine once tried to get me to go camping in Scotland on NYE, staying in a bothy in the middle of The Highlands, somewhere obscure?   :o

I believe the words I said in reply were 'you ******* mentalist...'

Detest New Years Eve, always have done. Whats to celebrate, another year of your life has flown by with little in it to make you glad that you lived it.

Why celebrate the passing of time. Time is all we have. You keep time to watch your life slip away. We are all aware what year it is, and what age we are. We carry time and our age like a burden. We difne ourselves and our stage of life by how old we are. "I am in my 40's", "50's", so you have an idea of how long you have left.

Burn all calendars, smash all watches.

I NEED MORE TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMME

^^^yep^^^

Just another night. Although, saying that, me and my boyfriend have a sort of tradition where we play board games, the older and crapper the better.
He is Scottish and doesn't get the "but it's new years eve!" thang either.
Those of you who know him know he's a huge beer fan and has his own beer blog.
You can get pissed and have a fight any day of the week so why is new years eve so special ?

Nothing special `til now - hanging around, music, a book, eating and drinking - the best is to have two days off!
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

Yeah, your planned NYE night sounds good Drummyb. Night in with the family, good food, good drink.

I will do similar, but without the cooking. Anything but go down the pub and have to spend half an hour queuing up with pissed up teenagers to get a watered down pint, the teenagers screaming at the top of their voices to be heard over the shite pop music which has been turned up to full volume to mark the occasion.

Didn't like that kind of NYE night even when I was a pissed up teenager  :D
