RIP darts legend Eric Bristow...

He used to own a pub somewhere in the Stoke area that I got utterly hammered in once in the late 80's or early 90's... fairly sure I chatted with him at one point!  Although those memories are blurry...   ;)

I met him and John Lowe years agpo at a small pub in St Blazey in Cornwall

Both true gentlemen of the game

RIP Craft Cockney

Jacques Higelin  :'(
French singer, poet, engaged and atypical character of the French song... he was 77
I saw him on stage twice in 1990 and 2010.. the 2 gigs I went were unique, moving, excellent, interesting by what Higelin said, poetic and also very funny... like Higelin was.
I took this photo at the second concert in 2010
I miss him already..

R Lee Ermey...stole Full Metal Jacket, probably his best known role.
Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen

That is a sad loss. He was also very good in the Texas chainsaw re-makes. Briefly met Mr Ermey in Kentucky a few years back. Nice polite chap. His role in FMJ was faultless, but then again originally he was a Marine Corps Sergeant.
The longer this century goes on, the more I feel I belong in the last one.

Sad to hear it.  He might have been a bit of a one-note actor, but he played that note very well... and, heck, he never set out to be an actor, just drifted into it as a second career and managed to make a living out of it for three decades!  And nobody could have been better than him in FMJ...

.
.
I saw FULL METAL JACKET in the theaters. I try not to read much about films before I see them. Knew it was a Kubrick film dealing with Vietnam. What I did not know was that I would be laughing harder than I ever laughed in a movie theater. Because of R. Lee Ermey's performance me and the entire audience were in stiches. The boot camp section of that film truly is one of the great comedic moments in film history. The line about what a well trained Marine could do with a rifle - using Lee Harvey Oswald as an example - was devastatingly funny. Oh, no. Did he really say that?

"Oswald was two hundred and fifty feet away and shooting at a moving target. Oswald got off three rounds with an old Italian bolt action rifle in only six seconds and scored two hits, including a head shot!"
That "including a head shot"....man, that's so wrong...but sooo funny.
