Was Burt ever really an actor? Did he ever believably play a character in any film? No, he was always Burt Reynolds in every film. He was a persona not an actor. A pretty big persona, no doubt, but a persona not an actor.

And before you say DELIVERANCE, I'll say that was very early in his career. For decades after that all he was in every film was BURT REYNOLDS.

I hated his SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT films. Two reasons:
1) they were redneck trash
2) they really destroyed any chance of Burt ever having a decent acting career. He continually chose to work with friends and have a good time (horrendous director Hal Needham, Dom Deluise, whatever girl he was dating at that time..) rather than be an actor who ventured into new territory to be better.

I don't care if Burt Reynolds was a "persona", "Burt Reynolds" or an "actor", but DELIVERANCE is great, HUSTLE, SHARKY'S MACHINE and HEAT are very good,  SWITCHING CHANNELS and RENT-A-COP are fun...so, thanks for everything Mr Reynolds and R.I.P.  :'(

Good call on Sharky's Machine, Guillaume, a somewhat forgotten but really excellent film that I haven't seen in many years (never shows up on TV and you can only get it for stupid prices on import in the UK so I, er, 'obtained via alternative sources' last night...) looking forward to a rewatch.

Shame his health suffered so much in later years, but a direct quote from the man himself... ‘I always wanted to experience everything and go down swinging. Well, so far so good. I know I’m old but I feel young and there is one thing they can never take away: nobody has had more fun than I did.’

Fine words, indeed.

Ah, I did notice that but somehow missed that it was region free.  I will deffo invest, even though I downloaded it last night...

Now if I can find a region free version of Savage Nights / Les Nuits Fauves anywhere, I'll be very happy... I think I mentioned this one to you before.   ;)

It is, indeed, one of the few times that NMA were used in a film (Purity, if I remember rightly...)

I might be wrong about it being a great film, haven't seen it since the early 90's, it might be shit but I'd love to revisit it and see if my original idea was correct... I seem to recall finding a French DVD for sale, but no UK subtitles...

I was not familiar with the gentleman in question, but after looking back on his CV, I've certainly heard some of his work.  RIP, sir.

****....  I worked with Chas's lovely wife, Angie, and met him once.  He was a nice man, very down to Earth and genuine.

Genuine gutted to hear about the death of William.  Death has certainly haunted this family with the death of his father Robert and his uncle Joey . God knows how his brother Michael feels . Tragic how 1 family have paid the ultimate price for sport.  RIP .

Oh no, I've only just seen this ! Hadn't heard about William's death  :-[
