Just heard that Cardiacs frontman Tim Smith died a few days ago after he suffered a heart attack in 2008 which caused him to develop the rare neurological disorder dystonia, with the condition affecting his speech and movement.  Not a well known band but one that has been named as an influence due to their unusual style.  I was lucky enough to see them live in 1989 which was around the time when they probably had their biggest hit "Is this the life" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZaqYkkYK4I This goes down as one of my all time fave singles and is worth a listen.

Ah, this saddened me, film director Alan Parker died today.  Not as big or respected a name as, say, Scorsese or Spielberg, but here are some of his films... Midnight Express, Angel Heart, The Commitments, Pink Floyd The Wall, Angela's Ashes, Bugsy Malone, Fame, Birdy, Mississippi Burning... c'mon, some fine films there that I'll bet many of you film-loving folks here have seen and adored.   ;)

RIP, sir.

RIP, sir.

I remember being moved by "Birdy" when i was a teenager, great tale of friendship and people being broken by war, beautifully acted by both Modine and Cage...also "The Wall" was impressive, "Angel heart" one of the best performances by Mickey Rourke and "Midnight express" is stiil a powerful film these days thanks in part to Brad Davis's stunning performance.

Here are some great moments of Mr Parker's career...:

'Comfortably numb" one of the most beautiful and moving songs ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3gUTGQoSDs

MIDNIGHT EXPRESS:

Dame Diana Rigg. Such a long and versatile career. I thought she was excellent in GoT
Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen
