Is it just me or do NMA get better with age?
« on: April 06, 2015, 06:49:53 PM »
Hello one and all,

First, I do apologise if this topic has been discussed before; this is my first time on the message board, so I'm not up to speed with everything that has been discussed over the years. However, I've been a fan of NMA since No Rest (I know Vengeance came first, but I discovered Vengeance after No Rest), but I do think the last few albums have seen the band get better and better, whether that be musically, lyrically, artistically, and their live performances have been great too (I loved the Wakefield gig last month). So is it just me, or are NMA getting better as the years pass?

Best wishes to everyone,
Johnny

Welcome, new friend!

I couldn't agree more.

There was a thread, way back in the mists of time, that said something similar (it's so long ago that I can't even remember if I started it or not   ::) ) but what the hell, let's go again!

Please post often!

Uhh, watch the insanely fierce and brilliant "Live At The Marquee 1985" video and then try and tell us that the band is getting better with age.

Welcome Johnny!

Yea, I think NMA seem to bring always something new and Justin's creativeness is probably an endless well. There are different eras with their career and all of them have brought some new emotions, new issues on lyrics, some new people joining the group and most of all, unbeatable and awesome music. There's authentic, artistic talent that I haven't ever found in any other band. Others are good too in their own way but there's only one NMA. 8)

Welcome Johnny

Yes, they are continually getting better. Like with other professions, there are many years of experience combined across the five members of the band and it shows in the end result.

As a live act they are a good as can be. Very professional, true to the sound they give on their records, sets planned and rehearsed to perfection.

Only someone who has never seen them live would think differently  ::)

Just found my original post from a couple of years back... please bear in mind that it's pre-BDAW but I think it still stands... I could edit it to be relevant nowadays, but what the heck...

So... as a longterm fan of NMA (20 years plus!), I want to put a question out there with a silly opinion of mine.

I really, genuinely, think that NMA are putting their best music out there right now.  'High' and 'Today Is A Good Day' are bloody amazing albums.  Looking forwards to the new one!  I'll go one further... I think those two albums are better than what you might call the 'classic' albums... we all know what albums I'm talking about. Again, my silly little opinion.

My question is... is there any other band out there that are putting out the best music of their lives after so many years?  I mean, we've all got our favourites from back in the day and they're putting out new music and we buy the albums and go to the gigs... but, deep down, we know the new stuff is a bit crap and we're only there for the old stuff...

I'd love to hear about a band who are still amazing after 30 years...

I think nma are on a second crest of a wave.
IMO The first peak came at Impurity, T&C and LOHC pick your own personal favourite, i think personally things tailed off slightly through strange brotherhood to carnival feel free to disagree. Thinks have definitely been on the up since High. There definitely on a creative high ( no pun lol)

On the live front. Imo Marshall has been a important addition to the band he has definitely given the band more energy, Ceri has also been a excellent replacement for Nelson he has definitely brought youth and even more energy to the band and is a extremely talented bass player

They are, to me, like good red wine. Aging, maturing, growing new facets. And every bottle that opens offers some surprises (aka albums, or different takes on gigs like last year xmas). That's, imho, maturing at its finest :-)

Hi Johnny welcome aboard,

I'm not sure they're getting better, there has been remarkable consistency throughout for me.

As I said in a previous thread, there have been changes and necessary ones too. But it's win some loose some for me and that's just fine.

We no longer get the brilliant, no messing all out Attack of 'Vengeance' but we do get the more subtle but equal brilliance of 'Stormclouds'

Which do I prefer? I'll take both thankyouverymuch.
