Manchester, 5 Dec 2015

Hello everyone,

I bought my ticket for the Manchester Academy gig online sometime ago, but it hasn't arrived yet. Should I be worried, or do they get sent out nearer the time?

Cheers,
Johnny

Another question about the Manc Academy gig...

Is this one going to be different from the usual Xmas gigs?  I ask because it seems like this one is part of over-all big Manchester Academy anniversary celebrations... as if NMA are 'hired hands', so to speak.  Apologies if I've misread the whole thing.  The usual NMA Xmas thing is usually a two-set deal that's ALL about NMA.  Will the following week in Nottingham be the same set?

Yeah, I appreciate that NMA probably haven't figured that out yet  :) but any indication would be appreciated, especially if some of us are trying to figure out if we afford both...

I would imagine its the same NMA gig as Notts etc,i think the added bill and bands is just to do with the Academy 25th birthday,it does start about 16.30 so plenty of time, however,i could be wrong, anyone else?.

NMA will play one set in Manchester. They may well play only one set in Nottingham. It's still NMA. Often the length of the set has nothing to do with the band themselves but the promoters and/or the situation.

Personally I think both the Manchester and Nottingham gigs are value for money in anyones language. Have you seen the prices quoted for so called "named" bands playing in Britain?! £22 adv for four bands (NMA, Gun, Dub Pistols and TV Smith) is a good price. Nottingham is £21 - it's a good price.

Go to the ones you can/want to go to and enjoy.

Cheers for that, Viv.  I just might have misread the whole 'Manchester Academy' celebration thing as being something akin to a festival set, where a band are fitting into a pre-determined slot according to the timescale of whatever else is going on...  :-[

Still gonna try and make both gigs.

Gun?!

Thats a bit of a random booking for the same bill. I can understand the other bands (bit of punk rock from TV Smith and high energey festival frolics from the Dub Pistols) - but bit surprised at some late 80s scottish pop rock being added. Nothing against them - they're great at what they do in a Glasgow Bon Jovi sort of way - but just seems a bit strange for this bill

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've never bought a ticket so far in advance before, but feel much happier knowing they get issued nearer the time.

Will there be a pre-gig meet up going on? It'd be nice to hook up with everyone.

All the best,
Johnny

Gun is a great band. Bon Jovi is a wet-panties-band. Please dont compare them. I recommend the first disc  Taking on the world. Fantastic album. And the last one Frantic is very very good too.
I agree is not the same wave  but is good rock.

Aww, that's a bit harsh!  Bon Jovi were my "gateway" band into more interesting rock/alternative music.  And they are good at what they do.  There's room for everyone...

The traditional pre-gig meet in Manc was always the brilliant Jabez Cleggs, but that's gone now   >:(  and the other pubs around there are kind of bland... ironic, seeing as it's right close to the Universities...

Still weighing up whether I can make that one.
