Lodging help in London/Nottingham
« on: July 03, 2015, 06:29:30 PM »
If any from my NMA family can give me any tips on reasonable lodging around London and Nottingham it would be very helpful. Trying to work out a trip from the states and after the airfare, I'll have to be fairly money-smart while I'm there so any tips on lodging (and the travel between the 2 cities would be great. Thanks in advance!! --Todd

I am going to the Nottingham gig and have booked a hotel nearby. They only had twin rooms left so there is a spare bed there if you want it.

Given that you have a tight budget i won't expect any money from you, after all i can't sleep in both beds!

It's going to be tough to find cheap lodgings in Notts or London seeing as those dates are on a weekend a couple of weeks before Christmas... good luck.  Perhaps check out youth hostels or student accommodation?  You don't have to be young or a student to stay in those places...

Wow, this is very nice of you to offer. If this all comes together, I will get back to you, but if I stay there, I would be paying you, I'm just looking to not overspend. Thank you sir!

Yes, this is the sort of information I'm looking for, if someone can tell me how to find these sort of places, it's what I was kind of curious to find as hotels can easily be searched, but these seem to be hard to do a net search on, or without any recommendations, you don't know of the quality/cleanliness if they don't belong to some hotel chain/corporation, so recommendations would help. Thank you!

OK, I CANNOT vouch for any of these places, just trying to find something that might suit you... if you end up in a 'Hostel' movie, don't blame me!   :D

This might be a good bet for Nottingham...

You can try www.airbnb.co.uk for accommodation and for travel by train www.thetrainline.com (leaving from London St Pancras or Kings Cross) or travel by coach which will be a lot cheaper either www.megabus.co.uk or www.nationalexpress.com. I just had a look though and it looks like they only have published schedules up to October at the moment. Not sure when the next batch get released but using an Oct date will give you a rough idea of times and prices

I wouldn't stay at IGLOO in Nottingham, it's a half-way house for villains. If you are struggling then you can have the camp bed at ours just outside of Nottingham, however this is a 5 minute walk to the bottom of town.

£38 for a family room, In a family room there are two double beds...

Hope you make it Todd

London YHA is pretty good if you don't mind sharing a room. The loud partiers usually go else where. Hope on the northern line from Kings cross and get to the venue easily.

Nottingham seemed to have only one hostel and it looks like a hell hole to be honest. I thought about going a well but the rooms are too expensive and that is the city where i felt the most unsafe traveling alone.

There are gangs of loud drunk people at night shouting out sexist remarks to all women on the streets.
beware of that.

Mega bus or national express is the way to go. UK trains are by far the most expensive i have seen in my travels. I bloody love megabus. I pound from London to Leeds.   Yes, please  and some have individual phone charges unlike the trains.
Where I'm from is not my home, and neither's where i'm bound.

Thanks again folks. I did get my airfare booked, and with that, got a deal for hotel for part of the trip (at very little additional cost). Getting all other details ironed out for this trip and am really looking forward to two 35th anniversary shows! I haven't been able to see a show since the two 30th anniversary shows in New York City.

I still have to work out trains and such but things are getting clearer for my first trip overseas.
