I guess I have no sense of humor then.

ray, you can argue with this ldopas. hes always right. with pumpkin, leave them to them to it. I learned that some time ago. this place is to talk about NMA. they never do

Actually Martin this is teh Everything Else section!

You may not agree with ldopas or others but as long as the debate remains good natured what's the problem?

Thanks. And these debates I think are reasonably balanced and good natured I always thought so I'm a tad confused at to the comment just made about me (and pumpkin who doesn't seem to post as much these days).

Coumarin, I actually have posted a number of things about NMA, particularly around the time of High and BDAW which I personally feel is a significant highpoint of the band's career. Most of that public interaction is with Guillaume and a few others. No real diversion of opinion, so it flies under the radar unlike the recent behaviour of Space. The band's current line-up is excellent and their approach to gigs is something which I think hasn't been there since the days of the three-piece.

To echo sentiments expressed elsewhere, conversations about nothing more than the band itself and how we all agree here about politics, religion etc... would be boring beyond doubt at best and something befitting the atmosphere of a boarding school with a strict, dictatorial master a la 1940s. Not my cup of tea. Agreement is perfectly fine, but let's not have it enforced as if we are members of some political party, leftist or otherwise.

Like ldopas and some other long-departed members, I have been criticised for not being a 'fully subscribed' member of the 'Army', or fully familiar with some guy's self-annointed 'caretaker' interpretation of what it constitutes to be a fan of NMA. The reality is that NMA isn't a political or social or quasi-religious movement. We all have our own brains and can make up our minds about issues, but many choose the easier route of letting someone else decide such issues and outcomes for them.

For what it's worth, I welcome diversity of opinion and the right to discuss things which seem off-limits. If anything, we should welcome far-ranging debate and alternative viewpoints, rather than stifle it for a variety of reasons. One of the best things about this forum is the ability to do just that. It's just unfortunate that a number of former contributors to this line of thinking are no longer with us, or only in short supply (kip, Heinous and c spring to mind amongst others).

Now, am I in the NMA or 'Everything Else' section?

Excellent post, Pumpkin.

I gotta ask, though... I think this Forum, nowadays, is pretty much open-minded?  People are always keen to stress 'this is my opinion, respect to others views' and so on?  Yes, we do sometimes fall out, but it rarely gets nasty and insulting. There is usually respect shown and, thus, given.  I enjoy this Forum because of that one simple thing, not the whole thing deteriorating into a nasty free-for-all like so many others I might have been active on (and usually leave asap...)

Sorry that you're disillusioned with the Forum.  And I really hope you post some more...  :-\

Rah! Rah! Rah! We're going to smash the oiks!

Thanks, Master Ray.

I'm not disillusioned with the Forum, simply because I have no expectations of it. It's a forum which has usually provided me with great information about the band and points of discussion and insights into ways of looking at the world which have been fascinating at times. It is more open-minded than before IMO. Like most things in life - it's had its ups and downs.

What amused me to no end years ago was how a tiny minority of members could get themselves and their knickers in such a twist, simply because others didn't agree with them and challenged their position. It often developed into a full-blown harangue, with accusations that 'you' couldn't really be a fan of NMA, because 'you' didn't agree with said minority's subjective outlook, amusingly portrayed as some sort of righteous 'moral majority'. Still laughable at best, so perhaps it also doubles up as something to joke about?
