Eastern Europe. Do you like it?
« on: August 19, 2015, 12:15:07 PM »
Hello, I am in Central Europe at the moment. In a week I will venture from Poland into Ukraine and then Romania.
I am very excited but nervous. It's my first time out of the west.  Especially Ukraine as the letter is different.

I have a feeling stopping into Lviv train station will feel  bit like the soviet era.

However a 13 hour sleeper train for 4 euros is unbelievable.  I have to actually walk 30 minutes across the border. I will either have to hitchhike or get a taxi. The first sounds more economical

So what are you experiences in Eastern Europe? Your favorite countries?
Where I'm from is not my home, and neither's where i'm bound.

I don't think your border crossing will require a taxi. It'll be a matter of getting off your train, walking through the border and getting back onto a train.

I loved Romania and also really like Hungary.

Big fan of the Czech Republic and Slovakia and also had lots of fun in the Balkans.

I think you will be surprised how cosmopolitan Lviv is.

The woman I spoke to on your behalf the other day spoke better English than you.

me too, I went to passchendaele and ypres last November for the 100 years and found my great grandfathers name at tyne cot cemetery, that aside I met many Europeans in the town of muscron in Belgium. I think they were most welcoming and polite to strangers. the food is divine.

There's a vast difference with north eastern, middle eastern and southern eastern Europe. You may not pigeonhole it. It depends on a country and there are tens of them only here in eastern Europe. Sorry.  :)

I do not like it. It's too big and parts of it smell strange.

I agree Rusco. Each country is massively different. For instance Romania where I am now has the least structure. At least Maramures region. Ukraine is slightly similar. Poland and Hungary completely different.  I have not been to Bulgaria but hear it's great.

I have not yet noticed a smell except  cow shit used as fertilizer and that's not exclusive. Western Europe is also big.

I have mixed feelings about the parts of Romania, I have seen. The fact that hitch hiking replaces much of public transport and you are expected to pay is a bit strange. But it's just how it is.

I think Hungarian women are the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life. And I've been to Denmark !
