The most unexpected place that you have heard NMA?
« on: August 30, 2015, 07:52:33 AM »
I have never heard NMA being played by a street musician until now. Not in Germany, not the UK but Ukraine.
In Lviv, I heard something familiar and it turned out to be Vagabonds. They also played Manic Street Preachers.
It really put a smile on my face. It's a wonderful city and a mix of classical architecture with holes in the ground and graffiti and not so many western tourists. Something about playing NMA in an Rynok Square with a beautiful building and massive hole in the cobble stone is a beautiful experience.

Do you have any stories of a surprising time of hearing NMA music.
Maybe hearing NMA in Armenian folk band play NMA or hearing it play in Indonesia or something?

P.s.
Sorry about my raving about Lviv a bit too much on here.

Well, not a 'live' thing, but some years back I was watching a TV show called 'Trigger Happy TV' (a prank show, think 'Candid Camera' or 'Punked') and one of the stunts they pulled was to 'Notice Me'...

Walked past a bar in Riga last December & heard 51st State coming from the speakers.  There was no other option, I had to go in for a pint!!

Ok. Not music but a Tshirt at Peterborough railway station today. Completely caught me unawares but in a nice way 😉

About 6 years ago I was on a long weekend in Istanbul, was staying in a lovely hotel. Went for a pee pee in the moody immaculate dimly lit toilets, had had an ale or two. Imagine my surprise as the intro to white coats faded in really quietly.... Twas quite surreal and spooky to say the least..

Came back and told the other half could not believe it.....

About half an hour later discovered my phone was going through all its music via it's speakers...  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? Made me chuckle and still does to this day...

Through my office window, during a lull in traffic, at first I thought I heard it in my head. “Have I become so obsessed (or mad?) because NMA failed to come over to Brazil?” No, I actually heard the last guitar riffs from “Rivers”! I stuck my head out and saw a lonely car at the stop lights, it was around 6h30PM. What a wonderful feeling…  :)

The  same with me in 2009 going to Thailand with a stopover in Tokyo I saw a Lady wearing a TIAGD Sweatshirt. I had on my NMA US Tour T Shirt from 2007 on . we both looked at each other smiled and chatted about what tours we had seen. She was from the  Netherlands where I have travelled before so we chatted while waiting for the next  plane to go to Thailand. 8)

Love that story Ron B. Big world connected by music and made smaller. Love it

When I was in civilian service in early 90's I was once standing in a queue to get a daily lunch. Rafty tafty punk rocker with a long mohawk and NMA tee... Well, then a guy behind me in the queue suddenly started to sing White Coats lyrics to my ear. ;)

It wasn't maybe the most unexpected place to hear it because all of the guys there were some sort of alternative metal, punk or whatever geezers. But funny though.

This is a good one. I'm a bit of a prick when it comes to NMA. I feel possessive about them living here in the USA where they seem (though I'm sure it's not the case) completely unknown. NMA fans seem to be the most inclusive and democratic there are. This does not alter the fact that I have a deranged inclination to consider whether anyone I know is 'worthy' of NMA. Like I said - a prick. I feel if you don't fully get NMA, you should leave them alone.
So it blew my mind, and modified my prickishness a great deal, when I went into a feed store to pick up my nephew. He was out of the shop, but the remaining employees were from South and Central America. And they were listening to what would seem to be a New Model Army mix CD. When my nephew returned, he saw me there with my jaw inconveniently on the floor. He told me that he'd been playing them at work (I take full credit for introducing him to NMA) and the Latin Americans all loved it. It was a great moment and taught me there's no room for selfishness in the NMA universe. Unless someone says "Didn't they do that 51st State song ?". Admittedly I still have to take a couple deep breaths when I hear that. But the word is spreading and that can only mean good things for Justin and the lads.

I was in a boardroom meeting today with a number of suits(me in my workshop gear) discussing a project they require me to do. When the main job was sorted all had to rush off to catch flights etc., leaving myself and a Belgian guy to iron out the finer details. Talk got to music, we had similar tastes, cool.
So I say "ever heard of New Model Army?". "No" he said. I had my laptop linked to their big screen, "listen to this",
then I put on Angry Planet.
"Awesome" he said, and turned it up!!
Never thought NMA and a boardroom would go hand in hand....made my day after a boaring 2 hour meeting.
