Shops and record stores in Manchester you'd recommend?
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:27:16 AM »
So, if you know some interesting places, shops, punk/anarcho/alternative/metal/ record shops worth to check out, I'd be interested to know.

I'm also interested in restaurants and pubs. And on the other hand some art scene based things; galleries, printmaking studios and fine art tool manufacturer's shops.

Or the other way, what's the Manchester that you like?

I love Manchester, been there a gazillion times since the 80's...

Where you staying and how long are you over for?

As far as record / alternative stores, it's gotta be Piccadilly Records, 53 Oldham Street, terrific store that's about nothing else but alternative music.  And then there's Afflecks Palace, about which I can put it no better than their website...  http://www.afflecks.com/

As far as pubs and restaurants and the rest of it go, there's plenty of good places but I'd need to know a bit more about where you're gonna be...

As Ian Brown once said, 'Manchester has everything except a beach...'  It's a great city.

From memory, record shops are:
Clampdown Recs - Paton Street (off Piccadilly)
Vinyl Exchange - Oldham Street
Piccadilly Recs - Oldham Street
Vinyl Revival - Hilton Street (off Oldham Street)
FOPP - Brown Street (off Market Street, pedestrian area)

Clampdown, Vinyl Ex & Vinyl Rev are 2nd hand vinyl
FOPP is cheap mainstream and always worth a look

Picc, Vinyl Ex & Vinyl Rev are within 100 yds of each other

Clampdown & FOPP are 200 yds, or so, either side of Oldham Street

I think there may be a HMV in the Arndale (Market Street) but i'm not sure.

spend, spend, spend!

Blimey, mate, you know more than me!

Although there is no HMV anywhere anymore in Manc...

FOPP is awesome, the number of cheap CD's / DVD's I've gotten in that lovely place...  :D

Hardly know Manchester at all, but there is some very nice Victorian and Edwardian architecture to be seen in the City centre. Last time I was there stumbled across this little gem of a Victorian pub, the exterior tiled to the roof --

Wow, thank you for these mates. I have to check them out. I already put the Piccadilly and Afflecks on to maps in my mobile phone.

TBF, probably won't be going!
