Excellent post, Shush. You don't have to be a fan of LOUD rock to accept that Motorhead and, yes, Ace Of Spades, were important moments in music.  Although I would have liked to have taken you to a Motorhead gig just to introduce you to the sheer velocity, volumn and utter mental-ness of it all...  ;)

I did hear the Ace of Spades song and it was not my type of music.

This will be an unpopular opinion.
Three other musicians have died this week yet Lemmy gets all the media coverage. They get little.
It's a bit bothersome because all should be mourned the same. I am not downplaying that his death was tragic but others are too.

Natalie Cole, John Bradbury and Guru Josh?

I think two of those musicians have been mentioned on this thread and somewhat widely on the whole internet?

Agreed, it is a shame that Mr Bradbury from The Specials wasn't more widely recognised.

But you can't ask that a one-hit wonder from the early 90's should get the same recognition as a truly legendary and influential figure (that huge names like Dave Grohl, Metallica, Alice Cooper, Anthrax, Pantera etc etc are falling over themselves to pay tribute...)

In this day and age there are thousands of celebrity Musicians , Actors, Poets, Authors etc. As such a celebrity dies just about every day. At the end of the day it is down to the individuals here to post an R.I.P. on the R.I.P. thread as they see fit.
I think it is reasonable that a legendary figure such as Lemmy from the world of, shall we say none-mainstream music is likely to get attention from members of a forum of a none-mainstream band such as NMA

People mourn other people in relation to how much of an impact they had on them personally, rather than how important the deceased was.

Well said that, Shush.

I want to mention couple of funny or otherwise interesting details from the White Line Fever book yet: Lemmy went once to see Knievel jumping from a top of a building.

He played bass in the Damned at one gig.

He also played in Frankie Goes to Hollywood once.

Fast Eddie and Philty Animal used to have fun by fighting at each other; punching each other while Lemmy didn't join this.

There was once a tour when Philty couldn't walk at all. When a gig started, roadies lift Philty to the drum kit behind the drums from a wheel chair. When travelling with the tour bus, Philty couldn't even sit on a seat so he layed just on the floor of the bus!

Good point.

And if we want to go there, why do we get headline news about actors and musicians mostly? What about the directors and the people who wrote the script that comes out of their mouths. Lets go further, why are people who pretend to be others or play a guitar more in the news than people in business, charities, military etc?

Four new elements recently synthesised/discovered are needing a name. IUPAC tend to have traditional methods of systematically naming them, or after a scientist, or where it was first discovered. whatever...

As a chemist, I like the article that I've just heard on the radio. "If it's the heaviest metal known to man, it should be called Lemmium"

'kin awesome to have an element named after you.

I think you are 100 percent right Shush.
For instance I was a kid when Joe Strummer died. Maybe 14 and I cried and was very upset. It was because The Clash was one of my favorite bands from the age of 11 to 15. I felt a deep connection to his words and music at that time. Therefore it crushed me.  If someone is moved by Motorhead, then Lemmy's death probably stings as well.

A big Finnish milk producing Company Valio made a contract with Lemmy in Finland on 6th of Dec 2015 about an advertisement to use on TV. They even filmed it then! However they probably didn't get all licenses ready and as we know Lemmy passed away the same month later on.

The advertisement is on the YouTube, so HERE IT IS:) :)

Enjoy!

Damn, he looks so old and ill... but his little smile at the end... he was always in on the joke, whatever that joke was...

Rather a fitting tribute that his last appearance was in something so odd...

Here's some more about his appearance in here: 6th Dec was Independence day here, Motorhead gig in Helsinki and they started with Bomber. Vid: https://youtu.be/KO271VMkPIs (I'm not that jingoistic if you know what I mean but what a starter...)

They've played here for 33 times. I've seen them thrice.

I'm not sure but think they played twice in Germany after Helsinki before the tour end.

Locomotive - great tune!

I must find a CD of the 'Phenomena / Creepers' soundtrack one of these days, bought a tape of it way back in the day, one of the best soundtracks ever....
