We went to the Manchester gig before Christmas and just before they played 'One Of The Chosen,' Justin mentioned that he once joined a cult. Does anyone know which one?

I'm interested because I used to work in the retail sector for a couple who were scientologists and I very quickly realised that they don't see the world as non paleontologists see it and the more I read and researched the subject, the more I thought, "How can a rational person fall for this nonsense?"

I think he meant various religious groups.
I can say i don't know the feeling. My parents tried to shove catholicism down my throat.
Then the nastiness of kids and staff in catholic schools turned me off of religion from an early age.
Instead of feeling inclusion from religion, I felt alienation. I would gladly join a non-religious cult to feel inclusion though. As long as it is not the kind that hurt people.

I know where you're coming from, A, about catholicism.  I really don't like that religion.  Got moved to a catholic school at 13 (and, to be fair, it was a decent school in terms of education) but the shit they tried to indoctrinate me with was just awful, and this to a kid who didn't even know what a catholic WAS until then!  I remember a horrible, graphic video about abortions that was shown to us (at f-ing 13 YEARS OLD!) because it was 'wrong' according to, ahem, 'God'...

Like you, it's probably why the whole 'religion' thing pisses me off to this day...

Not strictly a religious reply but that video comment did just get me questioning myself. Abortion is the termination of an unwanted human life for whatever reason and is legal and accepted in the UK. I can see the argument about it being against god and Im neither here nor there with either side. What it did do is then make me think about how the law/morals can be so easily manipulated. What could be either a murderer or potentially the person to cure cancer can be disposed of because its unwanted or for other reasons. Yet if youve lived your life and suffer in pain, its unacceptable for the state to end it for you, so potentially you die in agony. Equally the killing of a baby in the womb unlawfully is child destruction, not murder (which I also understand the argument for).

I guess the point im making is how thin the line is, for what is acceptable to end life to what isnt. And who is to decide that? A personal epiphany and food for thought moment.....apologies if Ive dragged something up thats affected/affecting anyone.

The 'pro-choice' debate could go on and on, you're welcome to start one.  Whatever was subsequently said, I would respect if not necessarily agree with and respond accordingly.

My point was just that catholicism turned me off religion, at such a young age.  It's not nice to be shown clips of such a thing as a bucket full of blood and guts (with an occasionally recognisable body part in it)whilst being told, basically, 'SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE IS WRONG' over and over again...

My point was just that catholicism turned me off religion, at such a young age.  It's not nice to be shown clips of such a thing as a bucket full of blood and guts (with an occasionally recognisable body part in it)whilst being told, basically, 'SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE IS WRONG' over and over again...

Cheers MR. I am on the fence in all honesty as I am with a lot of things. I respect both views in all honesty. It was more a debate within myself tbh as to why one is legal, one isnt and why I had just accepted the status quo without question.

As for religion, well I beleive in a creator. Just not one that another man tells me I should. The whole concept of a man being more versed in what a god says is right is horse dung. Just be a good person and respect others. As for JS's cult, I wondered if that referred to Quakerism. Who knows. Well. He does lol.
