...And Nobody Else
« on: January 05, 2016, 08:59:32 AM »
I get time and again fascinated by the song Snelsmore Wood. It's just so powerful; full of expression, full of life.

As pure as a New Model Army song could be. I think there's some similar feeling in it as in Orange Tree Roads; I'm running completely out of words with describing it. Hearing it live is like you'd want to run, would want to fly...

It's released on Eight studio album, but I was a bit surprised to find it on "...And Nobody Else" Live double.
So, a further investigation tell it was made in 1996 already. A way older song what I thought. When thinking about songs on And Nobody Else -live they consist mainly about stuff released in 90's, as the live sets were performed in -98. What a cracking live set(s) it was!

I'm making my point a bit further about 90's stuff here... At times you can hear opinions about 90's era it wasn't so "good" with the NMA and some even thought then they might had split up, but I think you can hear the sheer ambition to continue Justin had when you listen to songs on Lost Songs, And Nobody Else -live, maxi singles released during Strange Brotherhood, as well as songs like WWTG, Aimless Desire, Over The Wire and No Pain...

I had a problem with giving a name for the thread but we're free to discuss anything concerning the topic.

Ok, curious to hear your thoughts too...

 :)

SW is indeed a fantastic song and I was so glad to hear it again in Nottingham...

Pretty sure 'Rainy Night 65' was also played for the first time on the 'Nobody Else' tour... that was a good tour,

'No Pain' was, to the best of my knowledge, played on the 'Big Guitars In Little Europe' tour before its 'official' release on SB..?

And the tradition continues with 'Die Trying' played recently...

Apologies if I have any of this wrong... better minds than mine could possibly confirm?  ???

Orange Tree Roads has made a triumphant return on this last tour. It's great live.
JS and DW played SW on their set in Greece last year. It sounded damn good too.

I tried to re-format it for you but the link seems to be broken. I was curious to see it. :)

I couldn't get it work neither. But I don't have a FB account so don't have an access to all sites there if they're not open to public.

Now as there's a thread concerning Tales of The Road and this here I think it's nice to discuss what was going on then as they were about same time period in NMA's history. It surely was productive and when you think what albums followed on after each other; Eight, Carnival, 20th anniversary DVD, High... There were new guys joining the band too.

And Nobody Else is possibly my favourite Live NMA album. There are some excellent versions of songs on there like Snelsmore Wood, Brave New World II, Whitelight, Wonderful way to go and Vengeance to finish it off.

I was at Manchester Academy 2 on the NMAANE tour, agreed, one of their finest tours, interesting how in those pre-internet days how I heard no mention of this 'Nobody Else' band and chose to see them rather than going for another drink... what a lovely surprise that was!  And, I think, the first time I saw something like a JSAF set?  So happy when we got that double-CD live album!

Mildly amusing sidenote... I went with my best mate (and fellow NMA fanatic) Dan and my girlfriend of the time, who wasn't into NMA at all but came along because, obviously, I'm such an impressive macho stud and everything  ::) and I don't think she was too happy about having to go through TWO sets... aw, to hell with her, she turned out to be a cheating bugger anyway!   ;D
