Topic taken down. Why?

There was a good debate there. Take me down too if you wish.

The only thing that confuses me in this is why can't the original poster take the topic down themselves. I posted a controversial topic which got a bit out of hand, offered the admin to take it down if they wished, and was told to take it down myself - which I did

It would seem that the board only allows a user a certain amount of deletions and then refuses to allow more. I don't know why this is - it is rather annoying, and can not see where I can change this. I will keep looking as I'd much prefer it if people could take their own posts down should they wish. In this particular case it was requested by the original poster that the thread be taken down so I acquiesced.

It hasn't been entirely removed and I might, given time to look through it, resurrect it with the various contributions intact. I too thought there were some very interesting posts in there.

It will not be the complete thread as various posts were deleted by the orginal poster themselves before the attempt to delete the whole thread, so it will be modified to give the essence. Obviously when some posts are no longer there the replies will make no sense so there will have to be some modifications to have it read ok. Not ideal I know, but that's all we have to play with.

Despite what some may think, it is extremely rare that threads are removed by admin. It is not my bag frankly, but the ones that have been deleted in the past were removed with very good reason and were not taken down lightly. Sadly, some people seem to believe that threats and abuse are acceptable. They are not.

It is unimportant who were deleting their own posts, but it is important that they should be able to do so should they wish.

And it has already been resolved.

My view for what its worth, the thread had spiralled out of control from its original intention which imo was show solidarity with the people of Belgium. Yes there many interesting opinions given tbh some of them were over my head in terms of understanding and intelligence.
People should be allowed to show their passion for any subject and never feel belittled or put down and I feel personally in this thread that was in danger of starting to happen.
Just my opinion on it, feel free to disagree
