Top 5 movie themes
« on: April 20, 2016, 07:51:53 PM »
Any thoughts?

Bit of a military leaning with mine. I suppose full orchestra is more dramatic as a main theme and in scenes.

Here we go:

1. Where Eagles dare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh7S7V-y500
2. Battle of Britain (Luftwaffe March)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNVVoH9-QH0
3. The Dam Busters (wow remastered!)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyBLd1eRgts
4. Local hero (hats off to Mr Knopfler)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CagybSu2lNo
5. Das Boot  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfbAc-H44Uw

Disclaimer Notice: The word "Titanic" is not intentionally included anywhere in this missive.

Cheers
Martin.

Coumarin... does it have to be the 'main theme' or a theme was recurrent throughout the movie?

Hey, you started this!

OK, number one, for me, has to be 'Requiem For A Dream'... I fuckin' hate it when it get used on TV talent shows and the like!

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOAN8NOHVMM

So number 2, Vangelis, the end Blade Runner theme...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAwo7DPUFUM

3... Schindlers List, this tune could make a statue cry...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNSsv86lsok

Going onto a fourth one (and it's getting tricky now), Susperia, a brilliant 1977 Italian horror movie... creepy as heck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pins1y0XAa0

So many I've had to miss out on, and I'm sure I'll revise my opinion five minutes after posting this, but number five, for me, is Blow-Out, a brilliant and rather over-looked Brian De Palma movie from the early 80's...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOZ3bSJcOuE

So that's my once-and-for-all opinion and I will not change it!

Oh shit, I forgot John Carpenters awesome synth tunes...

Vangelis, well he deserves a topic on his own. Fantastic keyboard technician, and with John Anderson..... Magic.

This springs to mind    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94dY-QxjDiE

See... I'm already re-thinking my list!  I forgot Local Hero and the main theme to my favourite movie ever, Once Upon A Time In America!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj5Xczethmw

Great thread idea!

I'm thinking of this one now...very moody, haunting, melancholy...great piano and 70's keyboards...Colin Towns's "Full Circle" main title:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Mr7SGfXUnE

So number 2, Vangelis, the end Blade Runner theme...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAwo7DPUFUM

I've seen for the first time "Blade Runner" on the big screen two months ago...it's an incredible film in theaters...so atmoshperic and sad with great characters...incredible visuals...

Going onto a fourth one (and it's getting tricky now), Susperia, a brilliant 1977 Italian horror movie... creepy as heck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pins1y0XAa0

A timeless classic (and when i think that "Suspiria"'s remake will be directed this year... :'( ::) >:()

One less known but still kickass Goblin main title for an Argento movie is "Non Ho Sonno"...it rocks!! i play the whole cd often in my car player and it sounds great when listening it on headphones! too 8):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tliojZDIFVg

Others memorable Goblin/Argento main titles are from "Deep Red", "Tenebre", "Opera" and "The Card Player". ;)

Another haunting main title by Fred Myrow and Malcolm Seagrave from cult horror movie "Phantasm" (director: Don Coscarelli)...it's a great track and reminds me somewhat of...Goblin and The Door's "Riders on the storm"!:

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKoOJNtdnic

A timeless classic from John Carpenter...:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1JYDmo19to

and don't forget that "Big John" is touring live this year in the whole world!! 8)
Tickets are available now!

the main theme to my favourite movie ever, Once Upon A Time In America!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj5Xczethmw

A classic...from the same soundtrack i just love "Deborah"s theme"...so beautiful...

Some less known Morricone main titles i would recommend:

"White Dog"...beautiful and sad...vintage Morricone soundtrack and a great underrated Samuel Fuller movie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBdPeHn046g

"Orca: the killer whale":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_icVqP1ADA

"La sindrome di Stendhal" from Dario Argento's masterpiece...unique!:
