Later with Jools Holland?
« on: September 27, 2016, 05:02:49 AM »
Anyone else fancy nagging this show's social media to get them to put NMA on?

If, hypothetically, it succeeded, would the band want to do it, or have they been offered and turned it down already?

I meant what I said at the time that I said it.

It has been tried before yes. Several of us contacted the show in October 2013  details here -----

But, that was three years ago and if anything with their recent album chart success NMA are now a bigger band and really should be given some public exposure on such a music show. Are they going to remain UK musics best kept secret forever  ???

Remember trying this a few years ago, we all got the same reply sadly.

Shame as there are millions of people missing out on a band who are without doubt one of the best bands out there and live second to non, a performance on that show would open a lot of peoples eyes.(and ears)

Later always has up and coming bands with main label backing or shite that is releasing a new album and needs to boost sales, I for one love the show but am shocked at some of the dross they do have on there.

Seasick Steves career started on that show. ( Love him by the way)

So it does work.

As for the NMA doing it, I would have thought they would (even if its just to put two fingers up to the so called music scene and the men in suits lining their pockets).
And after 36 years it would be great just to see a small amount of acknowledgement for what they have achieved.

What a fckin sad situation, we have hundreds of tv stations with probably about 20 or so of these stations "main stream" n we have one half decent music show. Stick a few talentless wannabes' with a sob story on the x factor or voice n millions tune in.

Q Magazine need a big old heads up as well. They often do stories about 'old' bands who still have a following, heck, they've done TWO stories on The Cult in the last few years despite that band (much I liked their old stuff) have their glory days well behind them.  But NMA, on a roll in their latter years, some critically acclaimed albums and a documentary that went down well at film festivals worldwide... f-all.   >:(

My guess is that someone at Later has some sort of "history" with NMA and as such they are vetoed. Possibly the same with Q magazine. Either that or we are just obsessed weirdo's who like strange stuff nobody else does  ;D

Anna, I think you're right. I think the BBC in general has a problem with the band. Maybe it goes all the way back to TOP and 'No Rest'.

I was watching Jools covering Glastonbury a good 6 or 7 or 8 years ago and he mentioned the band were about to play on one of the stages, but the BBC didn't show any footage.

In another context, it would be defined as prejudice.

Typical beeb breaking the royal charter n showing that they aren't independent or un biased. Just the same way they take money from china and European Parliament, ever wondered why they don't run negative stories on them.

Perhaps the Beeb should give some attention to some of the lesser festivals regularly held up and down the Country other than just Glastonbury
