It was absolutely amazing, wasn't it?  :D so happy now...and yes, new hoodie for me and my friend, too.

Mind you, I was so scared we would end up being too late: there was a massive traffic jam on the A3, caused by roadworks - and the inability of people to properly handle lanes being narrowed down.  >:(
One hour we were stuck in that mess...but still made it in time for NMA which is basically all that matters.  :)

I hope everyone who travels on has a safe journey...now I am waiting for the tickets for Dortmund to go on sale - yay!

Have a lovely Sunday, too, witch - and everyone else, of course, me I am off to my afternoon dog walk.

I agree!! Amazing and very intense right from the start. When the band started playing and everybody immediately started bumping into each other - great. 😆 Can't wait for Amsterdam tonight. 😎😎

It roughly translates to "too many new songs, fans were waiting for the classics". Which is far from reality, in fact I was very positively surprised how many in the crowd sang along to the new material.

Vagabonds? They where maybe on a diffrent concert.... 8)
I have a feeling that whover wrote the article wasn't there at all...quite a few mistakes in there. But then the Express is not known for excellent journalism. Sent them a message, I doubt they will be upset...but hey, feeling better now. 😜

No mess on the motorway (Hamburg-Cologne and back to the north today), meet & talk  :)
But for me it wasn`t an amazing gig because of the setlist - too much old and too often played songs
Family and No Rest - some of the not so often played ones - but why High? Didn`t work for me
Oldies and clapping before the end of the song -if you are a fan of that song, you know that it is going on ....
Sorry, but the gigs I`ve been in october (and the 13 or 14 christmas gigs) I think were much better :(

But the gigs in march are not that far away  ;)
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

Might not be making any friends with this post.

I loved yesterday's gig. It was great. Setlist a little biased towards the last two cd's, but I love them, so that's perfectly fine. However, this is a christmas show. Costs €45. I had to drive 250km to see it, 250km back. Hotel room. All in all a quite expensive trip. But you know, the christmas shows are always something special.

My first one two years ago had a killing setlist and a few brilliant guest musicians (http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/new-model-army/2014/pulousalladium-cologne-germany-5bcd0b60.html) It was an epic and memorable night.  Last year, was great too, but not the same as 2014. This year, an even shorter setlist. If I compare it to the previous gig I saw three months ago in Maastricht, it's not that much different. Maybe I am spoiled, but I expect more from the christmas shows. The fabulous guest violin player was there during many normal shows. None of that yesterday. The Nottingham set of one week ago would have made my day!

As it stands, I might as well just catch some shows closer to home and a lot less expensive, and skip the christmas show next year.

Top performance of an uninspired setlist.
Cologne didn't even come close to the 4 gigs we saw in October.
Many violent and obviously drunken idiots down the front...one particular a**hole even grabbed me by the throat - WTF?!?

'Too many new songs, fans waiting for the classics...'

Not having that.  The 'Winter' stuff went down magnificently in the two gigs I saw in the last few weeks.  11 songs I heard in total, 8 each at Nottingham and Manchester, and they were all met with much acclaim.

I genuinely don't understand people don't want to hear the new stuff, especially when it's an album as great as 'Winter', in favour of an 'old stuff' heavy set.

Gotta agree with MR. As good as the old songs are, the band has moved on. I think theres a danger of becoming a pale impersonation/tribute band of yourself if you concentrate on stuff from decades ago. So much great stuff since then. But hey we're all different. The two gigs ive seen were top notch.

If you go and see NMA on the Winter tour, its understandable that they play tracks from the Winter album. Personally I like the balance they usually give. New material in the main with a compliment of back catalogue. Would not want to hear for example just 80's material all night. They are better than that.

I hear you. This was the shortest NMA gig I have ever been to. I guess it's because of the two support bands? (Which I could have done without, to be honest).

Offtopic: Does anyone know why NMA have never played "Far Better Thing" live?

Are you sure? They played for almost 2 hours straight.

However, I agree that the Xmas gigs should be something special and this year's Cologne gig wasn't.

It's not as much the choice of songs I found a bit disappointing (I love Winter), but the whole setup of the gig. Two years ago during the brilliant performance in Cologne, Justin said something along the lines of: "How will we ever be able to top this?" And he was right, it was a truly amazing gig. And I don't expect them to top last year's performance every year.

I don't consider the christmas shows as being part of the Winter tour. The posters in Cologne advertising the gigs in 2017 even stated Winter Tour Part 2. The christmas shows should be special. Different setlists, two parts (one accoustic and one full on), guest musicians, I don't know... But special. This year (and don't get me wrong, it was a solid performance by  the band) was not.
