Gigs you could have gone to, but you truly regret missing...
« on: January 13, 2017, 09:13:26 PM »
So... I think the title is self-explanatory...

I love The Pogues and I love The Clash... I seem to remember that when Shane McGowen left his band they had a tour booked, so Joe Strummer stepped in as vocalist for a UK tour and they played Liverpool Royal Court (great venue)... and, numbskull that I was, I 'didn't bother'...

Strummer singing with The Pogues.  Even after 25+ years, I feel like punching myself in the dick, repeatedly, for missing that one.

I'll add never seeing Pantera (which many of my friends did) and missing Type O Negative on their final tour before Pete Steele died...

You?   :-[

Too many, where to start. Recently - against me and the mission. Would have loved to have seen the clash back in the day. Would have loved to have seen nma with Stuart, Ayr and wishaw being two early standouts . Oh another recent placebo

There are many of them:

UK Subs in -91 at Tavastia, Helsinki. Godflesh in -92 at Lepakkoluola + also few years ago, Voivod at Oulu Q-Stock and Discharge in 2015 London ... I'm happy that I can't remember everything that I've missed.
What I've found to be the worst situation is that you'd like to go and your wife doesn't, and then you decide also not to go...wonder why...

Ramones is a band I regret never have seen live. I had tickets for Graspop 1993. My friends were picking up my brother and my at our home. I can't stand the heat very well, it was mid August, and bloody hot. So they arrived at our house, and I decided not to join them and to sell my ticket. Oh how many times I have regretted it since...

This was the line-up: http://www.setlist.fm/festival/1993/graspop-1993-1bd68d24.html

Carter is another band I never saw live and would love to see once... They were also there :(

Prince for me. Had tickets to see him in 2008 I think. He cancelled the gig a week beforehand. He came back in 2012 maybe & for whatever reason I didnt buy tickets ( I might have been backpacking for a month hence saving the money), think money might have been a bit tight but that never put me off before - what a credit card if for right.

As a huge Prince fan I find it tough to think I'll never seem him strut his funky stuff.

Also had tickets for Fleetwood Mac on two seperate occasions, sold em & never went & yet to see them. A touch of regret but not nowhere near the same extent.

I wanted to see the Butthole Surfers play ULU 1988 but van trouble on the way meant we missed it. Ended up seeing them around 2010 in Dublin. Worth the wait. Really wish I has also pulled my finger out a few years ago to get Kate Bush tickets for Wembley. Just thought some things should be left in the past but all the reviews were very positive.

There are a lot of gigs I regret missing, but most of them I could have gone (too expensive, no time or other problems to be there, without an internet connection I didn`t  know anything about some gigs I wanted to be there  >:()
So there is only one I missed I could have gone to, a RSC in Bonn in the early 90th, I had a business meeting near there, no car, no ticket, walked 30 minutes to the next train station - shit- no way to for a late return, a taxi for ? € was a problem, walked back (angry with myself to risk it and to deal with the lack of money or getting not ticket later) and had a lot of red wine with the other ones of the meeting (not knowing/sharing my music), told them, I only was out for a walk ...
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

Some great responses and the fact that others are cut up by never seeing bands that I have done makes me glad that I've spent so much time and money on gigs... money well spent!

I also wish I'd seen Kate Bush, no news of further gigs and not even a DVD release (the live album was cracking...)

Keep 'em coming!

This one made me quite upset. Not to say furious...

Had tickets for this White Lies gig in Brussels: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/white-lies/2013/ancienne-belgique-brussels-belgium-4bc42ffa.html

Drove to the AB, been there many times before, and into the parking lot a few hundred meters from the venue. I Ialways park there. As it happens, the place was full, but they still let cars in. A technical problem. It was a basket trap! The whole place was gridlocked. No place to park the car, no way to get out. When I finally managed to get out (gig had already started), I drove home in anger.

I'd seen the band two times before, so it was not so bad in the long run, but I was pretty pissed off.

My biggest regret was missing my all time faves Husker Du back in June 1987 in Manchester as I'd been invited to a evening wedding do.  My thoughts were that I'd see them next time around but sadly for me they split in early 88 and although a lot of bands reform years later it doesn't look likely that they ever will.  I have seen Bob Mould in Sugar and solo and also drummer Grant Hart solo who both still do Husker songs live but it's just not the same.   Another regret is missing the Gun Club also in 1987 as I have respect for Jefferey Lee Pierce as he was a guy who lived the rock n roll lifestyle to the full but sadly died in 1997, I think.   I don't recall the GC playing Manchester after then which was before I started wandering further afield.

I was on the guest list for a gig at small venue in Sheffield for an up & coming Manchester band. The girl organising it thought I might quite like them as they were a bit 60s psychedelic. I went to the pub instead. The Stone Roses went onto bigger & better things..

Hmmmm, well apart from the ones that there was no way of seeing (like the Beatles) I only have a few that I passed up the opportunity to see and regretted it.

I didn't go to see the Supersuckers because I'd just met my other half and went to her place instead (I remind her of that every now and again!) and haven't had the chance to see them again, which is a bummer because they're one of my favourites.

The worst one, though, was Nirvana at Aston Villa leisure centre.  We had the tickets (in our hands, I think - it was a long time ago!) and then the tour was postponed because of the Rome incident.  We had to send the tickets back to get ones for the show that was going to be played there when the tour was re-scheduled.  Then Kurt died, and the rescheduling didn't take place.  How I wish I still had that ticket...

I never saw Guns 'N' Roses, either; I know you can see 60% of them again now, but for me that just ain't the same.

Agreed about GnR... I'm not paying silly prices for their one UK date, just so I can sit around until Axl (who can't sing worth shit anymore) gets his ass together and drags that same bloated ass on stage...

I seem to recall that GnR, Metallica and Faith No More (possibly Body Count too) did a UK stadium tour in the early 90's... I would have gone to that line-up, deffo.  Any clarification, anyone?
