So... UK Spring dates... whose going where?
« on: February 06, 2017, 07:34:22 PM »

Think it's going to be Bilston 2 for me, always fancied checking it out, I've heard good things and it's a half hour train journey from my hometown to Wolverhampton and, after a bit of internet investigation, quite easy to get back to Wolves after the gig where a Premier Inn will await...

I do fancy checking out Glasgow so I can meet up with Pol (especially after the disappointment of his no-show at Nottingham) but that's dependant on the cash-flow situation in the next couple of months...

Where you lot going?  :)

Think it will just be Glasgow for me. Still waiting on confirmation of another flat, its only next door n won't cost much to move, though getting the phone reconnected etc will probably be a few quid. . Work wise its looking like the guy who currently rents the shop will be leaving soon n the owner will be taking back over, might mean more hours for me.

Ticket bought for Bilston.  Premier Inn booked, only £60 and it's right next to the train station in Wolverhampton.  Looking into public transport links between the venue and Wolves.  Good times!

Those of you have been to Bilston... what's the surrounding area like for pre-gig drinks?  Or should we stay in Wolverhampton (not a great and exciting place, to be honest) and get public transport over just in time for the gig?   ???

In looking around the Bilston venue online, I lost track of the number of nearby pubs I found (good sign) which only had one or two star customer reviews (bad sign).  I allowed myself to suppose it was in a bit of a dodgy area, with a bunch of dive bars handy.  As a fan of dive bars, I look forward to ambling about.

Oh, and this is the lodging we've booked, for all your stalking purposes:

Norwich: Central Hotel
Wolverhampton: Britannial Hotel
Northhampton: Ibis Northhampton Centre

We can cancel it all, if better options appear.

Cheers Steve I'm staying at the Premier Inn right next to the station.  Think I might investigate Bilston for pre-gig drinks, never been there and I also have a fondness for 'dive bars'!  Not a huge fan of Wolverhampton.

Been on Trip Advisor, seems like there's decent public transport links back to Wolves, I'll look into it, if it's not possibly, perhaps a bunch of us can share a cab?  Whatever, a few weeks to sort this stuff out.

Cool, it looks like an 8 minute walk between hotels, which I will declare as 'negligible' despite my advancing years.  I'm also under the impression Uber operates in the greater Birmingham area.  Despite my misgivings about the company, I haven't deleted them from my phone just for situations like this, where I'm traveling internationally.  (They were a godsend in Tokyo and Paris.)  But, yes, shared cabs, trams, etc.  That all sounds great.

I suppose that's an upside of all the fans growing older: I have a stable income, and don't mind splurging on cabs.  Or, for that matter, a proper bed or myself, versus the floor of somebody's pantry.

In Bilston, it seems the venue also has rooms and they are very affordable. Booked mine, a long time ago.

I'll be at Bilston. The Robin 2 is rated locally as a decent venue. The original Robin Hood, less than two miles from me, was equally great but they shut it to move to Bilston. It was something to do with Noddy Holder.

Bilston's ok. Typical small Black Country town and generally you'll get a friendly hello from most folks. I'll get my ticket this payday  :)

Cool, DB, be good to see you again.  Sounds like enough good folks for a pre-gig meet!  Details, I'm sure, will be sorted near the time...

Yeah, I was excited to just book a room at the venue, but it seemed to be sold out for the date. I think it only had eight rooms or something. And I might have been doing it wrong.
