Chinese Whispers
« on: March 05, 2017, 07:35:22 PM »
There were 3 kick ass songs NMA recorded on sessions making the White Coats EP. I think all of them are fantastic tracks. Chinese Whispers isn't mentioned so often here so I thought to create a topic concerning it.

I've always thought it's a bit different song, but still a really kicking, punchy, diverse and sparkly one. There it's possible to hear clearly the influence of southern rock that JS has. The idea of having pauses with the bass lines works really well in the song. At times Chinese Whispers sounds even a bit funny and I can imagine they've had nice time in the studio playing it. If there's a story behind the song it would be nice to hear about it. How did they get an inspiration for it?

Ok, so how do you folks feel this song?

Cheers, T

Deffo one of the more unusual NMA tracks out there.  Personally, I really like it and thanks for the reminder!  Not listened to it in a long time.

I do like these drum-driven tracks... perhaps it might return for the UK Spring tour... (he says, with very little hope in his heart...  ;) )

Nicely found Rusco - don't think I've ever heard that one played live before. Introduced as "Little Buggers"  ;D

Yes think you're right, it has a kinda stripped down Rock & roll vibe to it. Not sure whoever inspired it would like it much though   :D

I agree with all that you said, it seems that it is one of NMA's less mentioned/liked song with "Whites of their eyes"...or maybe "Nothing touches"?
I like "chinese whispers", it's a fun punchy song, i especially like Moose's bass lines. It's a bit of an unusual sound and song from NMA i think. Was the title of the song a nod to The Cure's album "Japanese whispers"??

Being totally honest, I think the song is 90% great, I just really hate the break down bit where its " that will keep the little buggers going for a while" . Disagree if you want, I stand by my opinion

Unlikely IMO

It's a children's game where people take it in turns to whisper a phrase - as the chain becomes longer so the chances increase that the whispered phrase distorts into something hilarious.

The song alludes to starting rumours to wind other people up.

Goodness know what the Cure were alluding to!

It's why I loved the band. They would throw something different at you. The Beatles, Prince...their best feature is you get variety. AC/DC, The Ramones, Bob Marley and The Wailers...great bands but every song is the same.
"Chinese Whispers" doesn't sound like "Frightened," which doesn't sound like "Better Than Them," which doesn't sound like "Inheritance," which doesn't sound like...get the picture?  I don't want the same song every time. If I did I would listen to BeyoncĂ©.
