Upon first listen, I would’ve given this album a 6/10. Solid effort, but a bit samey. But it’s so multi-layered, so impressively complex that it’s not something you can listen to once or twice, and then give your verdict. It’s an important album for our time, so go and give it a few listens.

This one is bit contrary, isn't it? I liked how he described the complexity and that you cannot give a verdict after one listen, but "a bit samey' and only 6 out of ten? He should have waited and follow his own advise and listen to it one more time for the 10 of 10!

He gave it 9.
However that review sums up all reviews, a moment in time of one persons opinion. And I suspect many reviewers listen to a new record once and once only.
Anyone that knows NMA is well aware the more you listen the more you hear.
A depth to music and lyrics that very few bands can ever hope to attain.
Reviews in my humble opinion are pointless just an excuse for some fancy waffle with words which I need a thesauraus to understand.
Anyway enough back to my Red wine and the excitement of knowing there is 1 week to go till the best NMA album since the last one.

You're right MARKXE, thanks for pointing that out. I only read the article and didn't see the real rating on top of it. And yes, reviews are kind of a love/hate thing for me. I must admit that i like talking about those things, opinions, taste und geschmäcker;-) but it is mostly like you said "some fancy waffle with words". So i am a walking paradox

I think that writing good reviews is a rare skill. Far too many are just annoying because of their obvious preconceived ideas (both good and bad) or pointless waffle as MARKXE said. Interviews are much the same in my opinion. A good interview is a pleasure to listen to.
