Yoga, Trancetanz & Born Feral
« on: July 10, 2019, 12:35:58 PM »
First i want to thank NMA again for their kindness to let me use a part of Born Feral for a video i'm working on.

A good friend of mine has opened a "yoga-room" in the small city where we grew up in. One part of his offerings is the "Trancetanz", a session where people are getting blindfolded to dance freely to music, to get rid of the always-on-thinking brain and to just feel the music and the body.

Here's the website:
https://www.yogaraum-gummersbach.de/

I've shot a session, but it was very unplanned and spontanous, so there was no light and i shot with 100 frames per second to get a slo-mo and this makes it even darker. While editing and being very disappointed with the footage suddenly "Born Feral" came to my mind, this very dark but warm song, with this wonderful long part of drums and sounds and atmosphere and i always have my eyes closed to this and just let me being pushed around, when listening live to it, kind of a trance like state, so it seemed to fit perfectly for the project.  So i tried it out, began to edit to the tune and liked the outcome.

But this video is for advertising purpose and so it is a commercial use of a track with copyrights, so i just asked NMA if they would approve of using the track and they said kindly yes! I'm so thankful for that.

So here is what i call the second rough-cut with graphics, i'm still working on it and christof my friend has the last word on it, but i don't think i will change the main footage much at this point.

So let me know what you think about it. Would this make you curious about the trancetanz-course? Is it working as a promotion of it? And don't spare me criticism. If i don't like it i will ignore it anyway.  8)

Well, i didn't expect that much response!

Is it that bad? Well then you could just say so.

Do you think i wanted to show off? And failed miserably?

I just wanted to share this thing on the new model army board, because i used new model army music. I was looking for some reaction, comment. But nothing.

So i can tell you, this makes me feel kind of stupid, posting something like that and then...no reaction.

But i really don't care about it, don't worry. I just wonder why it is so.

I'm into sharing and expressing opinions and also letting my guard down and be vulnerable, rather open up and be attackable instead of going inside and stay in hiding.

But being ignored...how you deal with that?

Maybe i should have ignored the ignoring myself, but as i said i rather express myself than be alone with my own thoughts.

So yeah, whatever. Straight on for the days ahead...

Yes, that's true!
It wouldn't be the first time i'm yelling for participation and trying to lure some people here out of their comfort zone and hiding place;-)

I'm not worrying and i will keep this updated.

Hey Fella  :)

Well, I;m not around here much anymore (various reasons) but I do still drop by every now and again , tonight being one of them, and even rarer do I bother to comment on anything.

But - seeing as you put in the effort and I've just checked your video ...............

At first glance a rather curious concept but then I thought about it and actually I'm often away with the faeries in my own little world with my eyes shut during parts of a gig so not really that different I guess.

As to your video - yes a bit dark which perhaps gels with the vibe of the project but it does need lightening - a little hard to see what's going on. Maybe you also need to include a bit more "frenzied" dancing to up the tempo a bit and maybe drive a bit more interest.

Curiosity aroused -  Ja ein bisschen  ;)

I'll chip in here as well..

Normally, I'll try and post some encouragement for people posting their creative endeavours but this one somehow passed me by.  Sorry.

Translated your website and it's certainly an interesting concept.  I'm a long way away from you and therefore wouldn't be able to join in.  But... it's just not my sort of thing.  Maybe it's the whole 'British and repressed' idea ;D, maybe any variation of Yoga and the like just never appealed to me, whatever.  It doesn't mean that I don't wish you the very, very best of luck with this project.  Better people than myself might get a lot of of it.

Please keep us posted, my friend, and I hope the concept 'flies' better than this thread did!   ;)

hey anna,

thank you for your insightful comment!
though all the points you mentioned are the obvious things i also was thinking about, it is very helpful to get another opinion. my approach was to make it blurry and "dreamlike", also to "hide" some things, because the footage is bad (my fault) but when you say it's hard to see what's going on, then you're right and it makes me think about that those who want information also want to see what's going on;-)

This is also a very helpful observation and good to have that opinion, because my friend wanted to have some more calm images of people relaxing, so opinions are different and i don't know how to realize them. damn those clients and their ideas;-)

As i said, this is a work in progress and it's difficult for me, because i have to implement the ideas of my friend and what he wants to see and we cannot edit together, because of 400km distance between us.

He gave me music for the project but it didn't flow with my rhythm and the ideas i had in mind and then suddenly born feral came to my mind and i just tried it out and i feel it works well with the trancetanz concept.
And this made him curious about new model army and after lietening to the whole song he bought a ticket for the cologne show this year. so at least one good thing has already come out of this work;-)

Aber schön, dass es deine Neugier ein wenig wecken konnte:-)

@Master Ray
I always envisioned you as exactly the guy, who is chanting "Om" loudly, blindfolds himself and dances erratically with wild spread waving arms on his white socks to sitar music, shouting: "hell yeah, i feel good. give me more of that stuff!"  ;D

This blindfold dancing is also not my thing and i know exactly what you mean. My function is to film that and make a little clip for my friends website.

I think we will re-do and re-shoot everything when i have moved, so that i can work more closely with my friend and better understand what he wants.

Ha, cthulhu!  Well, maybe 20 - 30 years ago I might have been that guy... hell, back then I was Mr Moshpit and I had the injuries to prove it!  ... sadly, nowadays, I often judge a potential venue for seeing a band as to whether they have a balcony so I can watch from above, heart problems and a dodgy spine have put paid to any excessive physical activity at gigs!

But hey, if you post anymore more stuff, I'll give it a watch and try andf offer any opinions about what 'MR From The 90's' would have thought of it!   ;)  :D

Hey Dude  :)

Those were just my initial thoughts and on reflection maybe the words frenzied and yoga don't really go together  ;D but trances and dancing certainly do so over to you mate  :D

Be interesting to hear how this all goes.

Viel gluck fur das projekt  :)
