From here one week in
« on: August 29, 2019, 09:34:07 PM »
So as NMA are musically quite complex a lot of the time I felt it best to give the new album a week to sink in, after hearing the initial singles etc I was very hopefully of a classic and initially on hearing the other 9 songs was abit disappointed ( with the exception of "Passing through" and the rock gem of "where I am"). That has changed somewhat with " from here" and "the weather" growing on me like f**k. So what does everyone else reckon? In synopsis I think a fantastically produced concept album with 7 outstanding songs, beautiful artwork and outstanding lyrics, the best album by anybody in the last 3 years....oh and watch and learn is prime motorhead!

I love it and I keep discovering new bits with every listen. It's a very complex album and it will take time to take it in. It's definitely an album that captures the spirit of the times in a more personal, subtle way. As I said before, I do feel that From Here is very much connected to BDAW and Winter in spirit but as long as the songs are this good I don't have a problem with it. The only problem is that it sounds best cranked up on the stereo but my neighbours don't seem to think so.

Yes, you need to merge your topic with the longer one that was already started  ;)

Master ray and Valstar I think you've slightly missed the point of my thread, yes it is a review of sorts of the amazing new album ( like Rays bigger thread) but from the slightly different perspective of how does it sound to you after abit of time, NMA are a very rare band who's music seems to Metamorphosis's over time into something quite different, and was interested to hear your worthy opinions, anyhow merge the topics if you wish if they're to samey, I would not have a clue how to as I'm technologically illiterate!

Huw, no offense was intended, just thought it might be an idea to gather all thoughts in a single thread, no matter how much time has elapsed since first listen.  Hope you get more responses!

Yeah no probs Ray, nothing wrong with a bit of straight talkin', no offence taken, I've been off this site for a while so its cool to be in touch with a bunch of people with exquisite music taste again!....Still can't believe NMA are number 13 after all this time.

That wasn’t at all to be rude, just often in forums people don’t really look what have been posted before and you get one topic in multiple thread and it’s not easy to follow  :)
So it was not at all to make you feel bad about anything  ;)

The advantage of this thread is that it doesn't have any posts from Whirlwind

Loving the new album here.
I think a lot of people have commented that it takes a while to sink in, and I would agree with that. It doesn't have the immediate "wow" factor of some of New Model Army's other records, but there's tons of energy, poetry and hidden depths here. Great use of backing vocals. Favourites so far are The Weather and Never Arriving.
Looking forward to hearing the band play some of the tracks live.

One week in, I am a very happy customer. Third album of the 00's, third with this current line-up. "Winter" very different from BDAW, I think this album takes the best sound from both the previous. Which does make one ask, what the next album will be like ? More of the same like "From here" will do nicely  :)
The longer this century goes on, the more I feel I belong in the last one.

I've been wondering the same thing. It's a bit strange thinking about the next album while still getting to know the current one. But it does sound like the culmination of a process that started with BDAW. So I'm curious to see where they go from here. I guess we'll have to wait a while to find out.
