Title: First and Last and....
Post by: Tony S on November 07, 2013, 05:41:52 PM
...not necessarily Always  ;D

What was the first album you ever bought (be honest !), and the most recent?

And how about first ever single, and most recent?

Mine are;

1st album:   Queen - Live Killers
Most recent album:  Michael Schenker Group - The Chrysalis Years  (cd re-release of their first few albums)

1st single:  Motorhead - Motorhead (live)
Most recent single:  Had to think about this, as it's been quite a while !  I think it was probably Twilight Home by Justin.

If memory serves, first single was 'Another Brick In The Wall', Pink Floyd.

As for first album... I can't remember if it was a NWOBHM compilation called AXE ATTACK or Geoff Love And His Orchestra with a cheesy album called SUPER SPACE THEMES or something...

 :(

It's the only Editors album I own.

I even haven't heard any of the others and I will be really honest I love it. I saw them at Glastonbury (on TV I'm too old to go there) and thought they were really good then forgot about them. Then someone on here posted a link to one of their songs and I remembered how much I'd enjoyed them so bought the CD straightaway. I love every track on the album. I haven't read any reviews on it or on any of their other albums. To me they are new and I've just discovered them although I know they go back to at least 2006.

I bought it a couple of weeks after BDAW and I so pleased to have got two albums in the space of a fortnight that are both brilliant.

Stranglers and Specials... Oh you guys have nothing to be shamed about... Among the first things I was into were also Dexy's Midnight Runners, Baycity Rollers & Beatles. :) A bit later I fell totally into all that metal stuff which lasted ten years. Until It was start of nineties and I found punk music.

About The Specials, they did also that Special AKA stuff. AKA released later on some digital stuff for DJ's too.

Thanks for that. I really liked 'Two Hearted Spider' in the early live version and was a bit disappointed when I heard the slowed down studio version. But I will go and check the rest of the album out. I do like them.

Here's the original version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUXtQ2qKiiA

1st Single: OMD - Enola Gay
1st Album: Thompson Twins - Into the Gap (I think, I might be wrong though and in any case I had bought a few shitty tape compilations before then)

Last single: ... er, not sure really, do bands release singles anymore? Not many of those I listen to obviously...
Last album: (bought precisely today) Stiff Little Fingers - Assume Nothing. Question Everything. If compilations/best ofs don't count then it's Jim Bob - What I Think About When I Think About You (ordered it a few days ago, arrived yesterday)

Ah yeah, I meant to mention the March In September flexi disc.  I was allowing for cd singles too though, which I've never been much of a collector of. As for 7 inch vinyl, I think the last one of those I bought was probably something like Snowy White - Peace On Earth, which came with a free Les Paul Gold Top badge  ::)

1st   Disco Fever.  A compilation album.  Presumably my Mum bought it for me, I can't even remember why I particularly wanted it now.  There must have been something on it I liked I guess, or it had been advertised on TV.   I think the original double LP of The War of the Worlds was quite an early one too, although I'm a bit hazy on that.

Last:  A Jesca Hoop album at one of her gigs.  This has reminded me that I've never played it and don't actually know where it is!   I think this was before Dog and Wolf  turned up in the post, but after I had ordered it online, so not sure which counts as the latest.

Singles, I can't remember.

1st Kiss - Dynasty or Queen - Day at the races (both on cassette as I only had a cassette player at that time, sometime around 1978/1979 (happy times; listening to radio shows trying to catch a song on tape without the radio dj talking through the intro or outro of a song, pressing the "record" (orange) and "play" buttons at the same time.

Last; Mintzkov: Sky hits ground (if you like dEUS check out this great Belgium band) and Arcade Fire: Reflektor

Singles;
1st New Order; Blue Monday (12 inch)
last; can't remember but March in September came with the magazine I bought so that should count

First record I owned was 'Breaking Glass' by Hazel O'Connor, but that was a (much wanted) Christmas prezzie rather than me spending my own money - that would be 'Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret' by Soft Cell - which I played every day without fail for over a year. No wonder my family weren't keen.
Most recent purchase 'BDAW', of course!

Last Single - Either NMA related or a Smoking Popes single I bought last year or so.

I remember that album. The cover used to fascinate me. My dad had it and I remember listening to it with him when I was 5 or 6.

Well, I was a child of the 80s and a teen in the 90s... I guess the first album I bought (or got Mum&Dad to buy for me, heh) was Alanis Morrisette - Jagged Little Pill.
First single was, I think, *whispers* Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me

My tastes have, if not changed completely, somewhat broadened over the years...
The last album I bought was BDAW. The last single? Well, I haven't bought a single for years.
