Ok thought I would start a political thread. Nma are a fairly political band and it effects all of our daily lives like or not. Feel free to post on any subject.
Ok I'm going to kick it off with flavour of the week - The West Lothian question where Scottish,Welsh and Northern Irish MPs can vote on matters relating totally to England.
Now most of you probably think at first that this is outrageous and only mps representing English constituencys should get to vote on English only matters What's not to like. Well here is the bad news this would give the tories almost total control on policy's relating to England
-
I may be the only NMA fan who is not super political. I am a classic liberal but don't allow my political views to take up all of me life. I am very passionate about some subjects such as human rights and fair wages but somewhat turned off by politics due to the fact that it's run by wealthy white men. There are about the same amount of woman in the world than men so they are not entitled to rule the world. A woman in politics gets cynical remarks about her physical appearance and who she is sleeping with are always made.
More about politics is Anarchy is complete irrational bullshit due to human nature. What would happen is alpha- male idiots would take over and everyone else will have no chance to thrive.
Communism will never work. While it seems fair, it's not. The people who work harder while their co-workers are lazy would get the same? No! people who take advantage of other's work ethics do not deserve the same.
However capitalism of today does not work either. The corporations own everything and the owners sit on their lazy asses all day in an office. When people who give their blood sweat and tears to work, struggle to survive.
-
Also I don't find NMA to be exclusively political. It's more passionate about certain topics. There are just as many songs about nature or love than there are political songs.

Pol, I don't think we'll know until after the next election what might happen in terms of devolution powers and who gets to vote on what, regardless of whoever says whatever now. As soon as it was a No vote, focus moved on to May next year. Unfortunately any chance of change went out the window with the No vote.
As is probably evident by now, I have grown ever more disillusioned, disenfranchised and cynical about every part of our national political process (I'm excluding local as that's different and there might still be hope there). To the point where I don't vote and don't know if I'm still on the electoral roll. The charade is so detached from the 99% of us now it's farcical. It was finally all over for me when they first used the phrase “Career Politician” - the antithesis of everything an MP should be. So as far as party politics, the “corridors of power”, elections, prime ministers and all that is concerned I've turned my back, accepted that I will just have to take whatever shit they throw at us next and get with it as best I can.
But I'm angrier and far more political than I've ever been. Climate Change, Prejudice, Sustainability, Control by Commerce, Foreign Policy, Bigotry, Barbarity and Depravity – shit, the list the goes on and on on. And I'm more frustrated than I've ever been too. All of this stuff keeps on going – things that made me angry 25 years ago still exist to make my son angry in turn and many have got worse. Some of them we still deny are even happening. So yes, I'm very political. But I'm issue driven rather than taking a side – if you can actually bear to dig through all the well rotted manure you find knowledgeable thought, experience and words worth reading from all parts of the political spectrum. But that's down to individuals not the party colours they wear.
Yeah, in regard to where I might express my political rights that's where I stand. In Limbo. Caused by the only word worth taking from all of that – Disenfranchised.

Hi Pol, as I said in another forum that is only "bad news" for you. I put the URL for the election voting and England is blue like it or not. So actually not only would England have more democracy as English MPs would vote on English issues like the other countries have, but it would get the government it wants. You and I might not like that, but that is fact! :)

Anna, if you don't mind me saying, your approach is a bit "angry from Mayfair", a bit blunderbuss! :) Its ok to be angry yes, but facts and how you want and will change them are the pivotal thing.
To me, saying you are disenfranchised is like saying you won't make the change. You know better than me that anger, left unassuaged will be bad for your health. you sound pretty damn intelligent, so what you gonna do about it!!!! :)
I do however COMPLETELY agree with your hatred of the "career politician"! I too detest it. Since when was politics a career. Even worse all parties have these people who have done nothing else except politics. There are tons of the bastards, and I hate it when they boast how many years they have been in the house of commons, or that they have been in politics "all their life", actually they should be ashamed of it. And they come in all parties; David Cameron, Ed Milliband, Clegg, Caroline Lucas, Simon Hughes, Denis Skinner, yepp even Tony Benn etc.
Shower of useless bastards I wouldn't give a job to! >:(
-
Idopas why would England having more democracy be " bad news" for me I don't see how it effect me in the slightest. England seems to me to pretty split politically there seems to be a definite north south split.
I just think giving the tories control in most of the decisions would be a bad thing.
But hey this is my opinion of outsider looking in and the thread is all about opinions
Anna i can't blame you for being pissed England seems to be lacking a credible socialist alternative if you don't like David Cameron or Ed Miliband what real choice is there
-

Exactly. I don't agree with any of the shades of grey on offer. I don't want my vote to go with a "least worst option". That feels like prolonging the very thing I see as a problem. I could spoil my ballot paper but that's not my vote - I don't want to be lumped in with the idiots that draw a knob on theirs. My choice is not to give my vote to any of them - they are not worthy of it. Instead I withhold my vote preferring to have it counted with the other non voters instead.
Anna, if you don't mind me saying, your approach is a bit "angry from Mayfair", a bit blunderbuss!
;D nah don't mind at all, well except for the Mayfair bit!
"To me, saying you are disenfranchised is like saying you won't make the change."
Not at all. How is it? It's saying I feel no connection to the current system. I'm quite good with change :D
"you sound pretty damn intelligent,"
HA! No, I just have too much time on my hands :-[
"so what you gonna do about it!!!! :)"
Change the ******* world man ;D Just me, my bow and my battle-hound. Seriously though, I don't know. Right now I'm still trying to figure that one out. I do read a lot and there are some good thinkers out there but as to pulling that into some sort of personal political philosophy and finding a party where I could put my vote I dunno.
"Shower of useless bastards"
I'll vote for that
:-*

Looks like Cameron, his appreciation rating falling all the time, is getting ready to start another war... um, aren't we in one already? ???
Well, it worked for Thatcher in the 80's.
-
Mr Miliband isn't looking to smart either, his last big speech before next years election and he forgets about all debt and racism opps i mean immigration. Before we know it Boris will be running the country i wouldn't let him look after one of my house plants.
-
See the tories are at it again with their benefits freeze or in reality cuts. Some people might want to stand on a Jeremy Kyle soap box and shout "get a job" don't forget this affects many working people with a freeze on working tax credits and child tax credits as well as people on disability benefits. Do these people have no shame

Isn't funny that the tories have managed to find 2 billion for the nhs for the last budget before the next election. Oh well i will welcome the money and if stops people voting ukip all well and good.
-
Pol - looks like the pathetic pre-election lies, bullshit and blatant bribery has started then.....................
-
Why wouldn't the Tories spend a billion or two on the NHS? If they get in, thanks to people falling for it, it'll be the last money that is EVER spent on the NHS... small change in view of how much money will be made after the NHS is history...
Here's the reality. The majority of people are £1600 worse off a year, there have been continual public spending cuts and the promises of a drip-drop economy are all but broken, and the deficit hasn't actually reduced. George Osbourne and Danny Alexander have failed on every single target, targets that they set themselves! If I miss all of my targets at work I could quite easily find myself out of a job, so I have one question Mr Prime Minister....when's good old George going to be receiving his P45 then?
There was a big story in my hometown that Bentley are creating 300 new jobs, a fact that the Tories are crowing about. Wow... Bentley Motors. If that's not telling you everything you need to know, then nothing ever will. The most prosperous company out there are one who's main job designation is to sell luxury motors to the rich, famous and uber-wealthy. Does Osbourne even know how much of a fool being there today made him look?
Also, the Tories are CONSTANTLY continuing to borrow......wait, I thought that's what they always lambasted Labour for? Putting the country into more and more debt. So what's different now then? All those two have done is exactly what every chancellor and his lapdog do, they've massaged and pampered the numbers with fluff like stamp duty cuts, freezing people out of benefits for no good reason thanks to some bullshit called Universal Credit and a shitload of smokescreens... ::)
A vote for the Tories is a vote for the rich trying to **** over the poor. Some hated the last Labour government and I wasn't all that fond of them to be honest... but to get these cnuts back into power is a terrible thing... You'd have to be an idiot not to see that. :o
(BTW, all these facts are easily look-upable... this isn't just some silly rant. Check it out if you get chance. ;) )
-
Why wouldn't the Tories spend a billion or two on the NHS?
Exactly - they need to prime it for privatisation. See this from 38 Degrees:
"Stephen Dorrell MP has just taken a job with KPMG, a private company that wants to bid on a £1 billion NHS contract. [1] But he refuses to give up his parliamentary seat.
Mr Dorrell has admitted his new job is “incompatible” with his role as an MP. But he's refusing to step down until May 2015. [2] How can that be ok? Who is his boss for the next 5 months - KPMG or his constituents?
If thousands of us sign a petition to David Cameron to show our outrage, the weight of public opinion could force him to crack down. Please sign now:
http://secure.38degrees.org.uk/dorrell-conflict-of-interest
For four years, Stephen Dorrell MP was the chair of the powerful Health Select committee, helping open the NHS up to privatisation. His new job is with a private company bidding on the NHS."
Anyone STILL not convinced of their plans? And please don't think Labour would be any different: they won't.
As for the other points you mention Ray - did you see that the Autumn Statement and financial plans laid out in Parliament rely on a 360million pound increase in Private debt: that's right in assumes we will borrow that much on credit cards, personal loans etc in order to pay for tax breaks for the loaded, continued "austerity" measures and the aftermath of the bailout. This happens and yet today a CEO gets awarded a 7 million pound bonus.
Scotland - why didn't you get the hell out when you could?
-
Anna please don't remind me
Catch you on the 13th for that coffee and we can put the world to rights
-
Looking forward to it Pol

So tonights bbc news at 6 1st headline 10,000s of people relying on food banks hand outs etc while rent energy bills and food prices have risen more than double here than they have in Germany .
Next headline the tories cutting more social services. Then some daft cow saying the poor don't know how to cook.

Don't worry mate - she said that her words were misunderstood, so it's all ok then...........................
Then that odious piece of dog defecation Farage blamed congestion on the M4 on immigration ffs! Trouble is amoeba brained pond life think he tells the truth.
Said it before and will say it again after today: Guy Fawkes where are you now we need you.

Ok its that time again there is no escape so heres my point
Should the uk keep the trident nuclear submarines.
I think that the money would be a lot better spent else where especially hospitals and schools. Lets face it we now face a different threat today be it cyber warfare etc
Feel free to make a separate point
-
Used to know few people that invaded inside the tridents at the anti nuclear campaigns there. ::)
-
Good ask Pol. And Rusco - like yer friends :)
I read a piece on either Guardian or Independent website today on Nuclear weapons and who has what ready to go or in stockpile as far as anyone knows. Trident is totally dependent on the US for continuing functionability (might have just made that word up). Without their servicing, technical support, personnel etc..... there is no Trident. And if the US were to withdraw that support then it appears that within a few weeks the nukes are inoperable.
So the first thing is that we can all forget any idea of an independent UK Nuclear capability. It doesn't exist. The question therefore really is: Do we want to continue funding a joint uk-us Nuclear weapons system.
Personally - No.
Firstly because if countries start throwing nukes at each other then we're all fucked anyway. There's more than enough without ours to extinguish current human civilisation.
Secondly because I do not believe that we should have a weapon of such magnitude that cannot be fully within our own control.
Thirdly - I can think of far more important pressing demands for that money.
And before anyone starts sniping about any anti US bollox they may read into that - It happens to be the US we buy our arms off. I don't give a monkeys flying fart which country it is.
-
Ok all this election bs has been boring the tits off us all for the last couple of weeks and will continue to do so for a while yet, so here is my general take on it
The Tories - A bunch of posh boys who are in it to see there own kind do ok n fck everyone else
Labour - Started a illegal war last time that has landed us in even more shit with the raise of isis etc and nearly bankrupted the country which we all also still paying for.
Ukip - A bunch of nazi scumbags who's true colours are starting to show.
Libs - A bit of joke party who get what they deserve for going in with the tories.
Snp - mmm for me the figures don't add especially with the oil industry struggling and things the way they are in Europe
Greens - Have some good ideas n should get more respect but some of there ideas are laughable and the voting system works against them
Help were fcked lol

Election?
Don't matter what we wake up to on that Friday in May. This will still be true:
"Here we go again, it's still the same, England's new chains"
Englands New Chains, Freeborn John, Rev Hammer
Politicians?
I go with Metallica: Kill 'Em All

Personally, I'm quite disgusted with how low the media is going with this forthcoming election (dependant on who is paying them... let's be honest, it's dirty tricks all around...)
Some public, non-political figure expresses their personal opinion... and the next day, the papers (the ones on the opposite opinion of the one that that person was saying) are dragging up some personal shit from their past in an utter slag-off, aimed at their nearest and dearest...
The whole thing is utterly ******* vile.
>:(
-
The election is already pissing me off, all the fodder I have had through the door. I think every party going has now sent leaflets to all four of us separately. What a waist of paper / trees. Must have had a small branch worth of pulp through the door. Do people really change their mind / vote because of these leaflets.
Plus, maybe this extra work load for the postie's might explain why I have still not had my live album >:(
-
Maybe your postie is a closet nma fan shush with a eye and a sticky set of fingers for a freebie lol
