Salut Guillaume !

If you don't mind, I will keep a 40 songs list not 42. But I will give you 4 of them !

I wanted to post this for some times so your post comes in handy ;). With my family, we made our "ideal 40 years setlist", with 40 songs each of us, me, my wife, and our kids, an 11 years old girl and an 8 year old boy (we were altogether at the Paris gig, both JS solo and NMA). We didn't discuss it, it was made separately to avoid influences from each others. That was really difficult to do, especially when you have like 45 songs and you're trying to figure out the last 5 to remove, a real pain :). I have to add that, even if we're french, the 2 kids are bilingual because their mom is American, so they understand the lyrics and sing along better than me on most songs ! ;)
[edit] Also we had to choose from every albums, that was mandatory ! :)

So here are the lists :

Me :
  1 Great Expectations
  2 Waiting
  3 Notice Me
  4 A Liberal Education
  5 No Rest
  6 Drag It Down
  7 The Attack
  8 All Of This
  9 Western Dream
10 Ballad
11 Courage
12 225
13 Green And Grey
14 Ballad Of Bodmin Pill
15 Archway Towers
16 Space
17 Purity
18 Before I Get Old
19 Vanity (my all-time favorite, almost never played live  :'( )
20 White Light
21 These Words
22 Modern Times
23 Wonderful Way To Go
24 Over The Wire
25 No Pain
26 Orange Tree Roads
27 Someone Like Jesus
28 R&R
29 Too Close To The Sun
30 Red Earth
31 Another Imperial Day
32 One Of The Chosen
33 High
34 Peace Is Only
35 States Radio
36 Pull The Sun
37 Ghosts
38 Devils Bargain
39 Eyes Get Used to the Darkness
40 From Here

I saw that you chose leeds road ... if I had a 41th song, that would probably be this one

My wife :
  1 Great Expectations
  2 Waiting
  3 A Liberal Education
  4 No Rest
  5 Drag It Down
  6 The Attack
  7 Lights Go Out
  8 51St State

25 Knife
26 Red Earth
27 Bluebeat
28 One Of The Chosen

32 Between Dog And Wolf
33 Ghosts
34 Angry Planet
35 Guessing
36 Devils Bargain
37 Winter
38 Die Trying
39 Never Arriving
40 Maps

There's only 2 songs in common between the 4 of us, "These Words" (but that was one of the kids lullaby that we sang to put them to sleep while they were younger, so it was expected :) ), and, surprisingly ... R&R !
My wife and me have 21 songs in common, that' a lot ! :).

So, when I play the "NMA family" playlist, that combines the 4 of us, it's a 97 songs, 6h56 marathon, with 8 Vengeance & Independent Story, 5 No Rest, 9 Ghost of Cain, 9 T&C, 8 Purity, 9 LoHC, 9 Strange Brotherhood, 5 Eight, 4 Lost Songs (unaffiliated with a B-Side), 6 Carnival, 5 High, 5 Today is a Good Day, 6 Between Dogs & Wolf / Wine & Blood, 5 Winter, 4 From Here (yeah, iTunes makes it so easy to play with the numbers ;) )

Thanks to you and your family for these lists Valstar!  8)

it's true that it's difficult to choose 42/40 songs only, I had to eliminate 10 or 15 great tracks..

20 Headlights (his favorite song, he was sooo happy at JS solo to be able to sing along the whole song :) )

Your son's choice is funny because I listened to this song again just this morning and it's my favorite track from STRANGE BROTHERHOOD...I like the lyrics, the bass and the haunting music. It's a maybe underestimated track from NMA because very rarely played in concert...so congratulations to your son for choosing it!

19 Vanity (my all-time favorite, almost never played live  :'( )

It's like "Nothing Touches", one of my favorite NMA songs...never played live!! I even asked the question (stupid??) to Justin Sullivan last May after his parisian concert why this song was never played live!  ;D :)

Yes, the same, and I don’t mean getting rid of great tracks, but getting rid of astonishing one 😁

He really got into this song, one day, a while ago, I was hearing the song over and over and over again in his room, so I went to see, he was with my CD booklet in his hands, reading the lyrics while learning, it was so funny, I saw myself way back, but I was definitely not seven years old 😁.
The funny thing is that we don’t even play a lot of NMA at home, mostly when a new album is out, and a few weeks before a gig, but the kids REALLY got into the band, we are proud parents 😉 (my daughter sometimes even correct me with proper NMA lyrics when I sing gibberish)

It's interesting, I'd be curious to see if the band's music (and/or lyrics) affect the younger generation, say the 15/25 year olds. When I saw them the last time in Caen/Hérouville Saint Clair last month, I had the impression of seeing in the public mainly people of 40, 50 years old, and at the Justin Sullivan concert at the New Morning last May there were some young people (your children I guess Valstar!?) that surprised me!

And what was his answer ? 😊

He was very surprised, and replied with a laugh, "But we have 250 songs, we can't play them all!"

Now that UNBROLEN is released, it's (maybe) time for an update!

I need more time ... to properly listen to it :)

An NMA album requires at least a gig before having an opinion  :D

And then, if the post office doesn't want me to receive my record ...

"Une erreur s'est produite dans l'acheminement de votre envoi. Nous mettons tout en œuvre pour qu'il reprenne son parcours et vous prions d'accepter nos excuses."

I have to go soulseek while waiting ! :)

I would say that "Legend" is maybe the best song on the new album so it's one of the 43 best NMA songs!

So, that was quite an interesting process filtering through all that songs... Difficult decisions in the end... But here it is, thankfull with 43 songs by now, or, shouldnt it be 44 by now, that would saved me from kicking white coats of the list...

1.   Drag it down
2.   Better than them
3.   Heroes
4.   Ballad of bodmin pill
5.   Green and grey
6.   Luhrstaap
7.   innocence
8.   Purity
9.   Higher wall
10.   Acab
11.   These words
12.   Killing
13.   No pain
14.   Leeds road 3am
15.   R&R
16.   Someone like jesus
17.   Orange tree roads
18.   You werent there
19.   Flying through the smoke
20.   Falling
21.   Rumour & rapture 1650
22.   Today is a good day
23.   States radio
24.   Green
25.   Turn away
26.   Modern times
27.   Running in the rain
28.   Spirit of the falklands
29.   Bittersweet
30.   Stormclouds
31.   guessing
32.   Devils bargain
33.   Angry planet
34.   Born feral
35.   Eyes get used to the darkness
36.   Passing through
37.   The weather
38.   First summer after
39.   Do you really want to go there?
40.   Idumea
41.   Coming with me
42.   A liberal education
43.   Notice me

That makes, in quick check:
Ghost of cain: 2, no rest: 2, T&C: 2, impurity: 3, without album: 3, strange brotherhood: 2, love of hopeless: 1, eight: 6, lost songs: 2, carnival: 0, high: 0, today is agood day: 2, JS Solo:2, vengeance: 5, between dog and wolf: 1, between wine and blood: 3, winter: 2, from here: 2, carnival redux: 1, unbroken: 3

Most interesting for me maybe eight with 6 (!!) songs, followed by carnival and high with each zero. They're both good albums, but for me, no outstandig songs there...
And since that was topic before, maybe that is what you would define as the view of someone young, me being 24 years old.

Best regards,
Johannes
