was Ed Alleyne the only one?
« on: May 05, 2012, 07:29:45 AM »
hi everyone,

A simple question - was Ed Alleyne the only violin player for NMA (live on stage) or
was there, at any point or time, another fiddler on stage with the band? Thanks!

Wasn't there an Ed Wolstenholme for some of the mid-90s tours?

(Someone else confirm as I was too young then!)

I think you have a point there .... checked Google and he did studiowork for 'Strange Brotherhood'.
He looks like a bit like Ed Alleyne, doesn't he?

I think there's some stuff on Youtube from mid 90's festivals with a different Violin player on. Tho' the name is not stored in my poorly grey matter........ Could well be Mr Woolstenholme tho, it'd make sense. Don't think he lasted overly long tho'......

There's indeed some footage on YouTube of NMA playing in Düsseldorf - 1990.
A friend posted it on FB and praised Ed Alleyne for his wonderful violin play but I watched the clip
and somehow he just didn't look like Ed although, at the same time, there was a resemblance.
And then it occured to me that there was someone else, once ... for a short while ...
That's why I started this topic  ;)

I checked Ed Wolstenholme on Google and he does look like Ed a bit ... long hair, leather jacket and
oh yes, of course the violin. Remember it was 1990 so we all looked young(er) back then!!

I think it's Ed Wolstenholme who turns up on the Bizarre Festival 1996 dvd. Certainly doesn't look quite like the first Ed.

Its defo not Ed A-J at 3:30 in this Bizarre vid - so must be the other Ed

I've got no recall of ever seeing Ed Wostenholme playing - not sure if he played many UK gigs as the bands didnt do to many UK gigs in the mid 90s - though equally I could have seen him a few times & its just got lost in the depths of time

:)

Quote: Chinese Whispers NMA FAQ 2.5.9
Unofficial an ex-members:
Ed Wolsenhome (1997)
Ed was a violin player that played with the band for a short time. According to Robert " ......He was aware of the band and we sais "do you fancy playing a couple of songs with us?" and that was it. We did it for about 10 gigs and they went really well. It was nice to play some of the older tracks that had violin on them. "

So that vagabond (I love that intro!) version of 1990 is with Ed A.-J., not with the red haired Ed W.

That is ABSOLUTELY ED ............. No doubts at all........ You can tell by the playing anyway deftness og touch and chops it's him, I'd know without seing the footage, but that is Ed by sight anyway Marloes..........
The "other" Ed is called Mr Wolsenholme. There's nly one REAL Ed........ accept no substitutes.
