The Smiths

Joy Division

The Clash

And here's another vote for Marillion with Fish... I love a bit of the old synth-y rock!  Yeah, I know some of it makes old-school Genesis look like The Buzzcocks, but check out HEART OF LOTHIAN, WARM WET CIRCLES/THAT TIME OF THE NIGHT, WHITE RUSSIAN or CHILDHOODS END... thats good stuff right there.  Great lyrics and great musicianship!

The Smiths, Faith No More on the Real Thing tour, Southern Death Cult, Nightwish with Tarja, The Cure back in the day, Sisters with Wayne, Gary and Craig...and that's about it. Mainly spurned opportunities...

I'm just here to say I saw Rory Gallagher live and make some people jealous.
..

dubious claims to fame no 57.. Rory Gallagher got me a beer & sandwich once.. I was working one of his gigs (just shifting gear at a local venue). The gig was on a sunday (and so doors were earlier) and the security were late - so i was volunteered to sit outside the dressing room in an empty corridor until security turned up. Rory was came out to see if I wanted a beer and sandwich whilst I was on duty - seemed a top bloke!

i saw Nirvana a few times - but never in the small venues - not sure why as I was going to a lot of gigs round then - the gigs probably clashed with a gig by Ghost Dance or Crazyhead or some other band that time has been less kind to!

The gig I regret missing the most was Stone Roses in the Maze bar in sheffield (about 150 capacity) - i knew the girl putting on the gig and I was on the guest list - but ended up staying in the pub.. doh!

... Nina Simone, Queen, Led (I saw Page & Plant, at least!), Metallica with Cliff, Ray Charles, Hendrix, NMA (with Robert Heaton, of course), Floyd (with Roger Waters), Dio...  :'(

Gillan with Bernie Torme', saw em with Janik Gers a few times tho'.....

I'd go with that choice !  Mr Universe is still one of my favourite albums.  I did see Bernie and John McCoy playing together with another couple of guys some years back at a benefit gig for ex Maiden drummer Clive Burr, at The Ruskin Arms in east London. That was pretty cool to see, and loud too since it was just a pub, and I was stood right next to the speakers !

Top of my list without any shadow of doubt would be Jimi, no question. I'd also go for 1970s Queen, early 70s Black Sabbath, Motorhead with Eddie Clarke and Philthy, early Sisters and Fields of The Nephilim

BLACK FLAG (before Rollins)
CRASS
HAWKWIND (back in the early 70's)
MISFITS (with Glenn Danzig)
HUSKER DU
DEAD KENNEDYS (with Jello of course)
Tonight, as you stare at the ceiling again
With your lover turning away
Disappointment closing in
Like the walls... and you try...
You try to talk about love
And they put their arms around you
But you still feel all alone
Wonder why...

I love the Nervous Breakdown ep, but the Rollins stuff doesn't float my boat. Dunno quite why.... I have to admit not being a fan of CRASS either........  :-X

But stuff like CRUCIFIX and FINAL CONFLICT, Christ On Parade, Amebix and Anti-Sect were all class in that vein. ;)

I'm a big fan of ROLLINS, but I prefer the BLACK FLAG records before he joined. As for Anarcho Punk, well that's my era. I spent the early 80's being one of those "passing stranger's dressed in black". ANTISECT were awesome, nice to see them back together, whilst I'm not really one for nostalgia tours. It's good when these bands release new stuff. Have you heard the AMEBIX album from last year Stoney?
That CRUCIFIX album has got to be one of the best releases put out by CRASS, blew me away when I heard it... 8)
