Some harsh comments here about Thatcher.
We are talking about a British Prime minister democratically elected three time by the British public, not one of the hierarchy of Hitlers Nazi party.
I know she made mistakes, I remember getting my Court summons for none payment of Pole tax,
Much is made of the first ever black president, what about the first ever Woman elected leader in Western Europe? Imagine how the old guard of the Conservative party felt when they were told they were going to be lead by a working class womann from the North !! -- they didn"t mind when they found out she had more balls than any other British leader since CChurchill.
I know I am in the minority here, but a forum needs a counter view point. Comments like "rot in hell" do no favours to a forum. When you log on, there always seems to be four times as many guests viewing as members. What will they make of such comments
13.5 million voted for her in each election, roughly. About a quarter of the population and we know which quarter.
As for the 'woman in power' business, how many female cabinet ministers did she employ?
Still, I suppose if you're going to slightly irritate some doddering Tory grandees in the late Seventies, the least you deserve as a reward is the opportunity to drain entire communities of hope.
Ah, what's the use, though? I've never seen anyone's mind changed on Thatcher. I probably never will, save for these children on twitter* presently complaining that people are speaking ill of the dead. I sincerely wish I could be that oblivious, though I'm not sure I ever was... I remember discussing her 1983 election victory in infants school, in the playground, at length.
I wonder if you see that anymore?
*I speak of the ones who've see the Iron Lady and found it 'inspirational'.
