And nothing will change.....
It depends on how you define nothing. If you are affected by racism, homophobia, sexism or any other form of bigotry and discrimination then this will be an important step away from the unashamed outpouring of hatred towards these groups (and many others) that has become a normal everyday occurrence in the States. If you think that the environment matters and that climate change is not a hoax then this election result will have a big impact, with the US rejoining the Paris agreement and Biden vowing to undo the deliberate deconstruction of decades of environmental protection in the States.
I agree that not much will change for the average American in terms of income or the stuff that they can buy in shops or where they can go on holiday. That is probably the reason why he got so many votes. Biden is far from ideal and many of the same old issues associated with US foreign policy will continue unchanged. But for a whole lot of people in the US and for the planet as a whole today's result is far from nothing.
In part I agree. The freedom for racists to have the confidence to spout their bile will end and they'll all crawl back under the woodwork. But they'll still be there. While I dont doubt that the end to open hatred militias roaming the streets, is brilliant, the fact they were empowered to do so so easily, is worrying, and imho everything wrong with American democracy.
Will there be a black man killed by a Police officer, and subsequent riots? Quite probably.
Will the rest of the world feel any difference from Biden, other than what the news tells them? No, probably not.
A change in leader does not solve the societal imbalance in America, or in fact any country. Stunned that the country bought into Trump in the first place, given his character is there for all to see, unlike most politicians. Biden is a career politician, from the same cloth as Obama. American politicians that get to senior positions, all seem to be like medicine salesmen from the old west.
So it will be the same America. Just less hateful of itself....and dont take this as a crtique of everything American. Ive been twice and the ordinary American is decent and down to earth. But has so many extremities as a country.
