All time Films

3--The haunting (original)

Not bad and quite creepy!
If you love this one and overall creepy ambiguous ghost stories, i strongly recommend to you one of my very favourite movies, "Full Circle" from director Richard Loncraine.

Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkcSIp7D1nc&feature=g-upl

One of the best "ghost story" ever in my opinion and a great underrated british film of the 70's, with an awesome lead performance from Mia Farrow and an incredible soundtrack...creepy, haunting, beautifully shot and moving ( i will never forget the ending scene!!! ):

After the death of her daughter, Julia (Mia Farrow) moves away from her domineering husband, Magnus (Keir Dullea) and into a spooky, old London house. Almost immediately she begins seeing glimpses of her dead daughter... in the house, in the park. Is her daughter's spirit not at rest? Or is something more sinister haunting Julia? Based on the novel "Julia" by Peter Straub.

Bubba Ho-Tep

It is a great little film, isn't it?
It's brillantly acted, funny, the soundrack is great and it is touching (i had tears in my eyes at the end!)...others Don Coscarelli's flicks i like very much are "Phantasm" (the first one) and "Kenny and co".

Thanks Guillaume , I,ll give that a go. Just had a look, see someone has uploaded the entire 1.5 hour film !! I really like 1960 - 70s British Ghost / horror films. With the sensors as strict as they were at the time with gore and violence, story and atmosphere had to take place instead. Like Mia Farrow, excellent in Rosemary's Baby. When I have that 1.5 hours spare, I will give it a watch.

Had not personally noticed before entire films on there. Soon I will ask myslef, why bother having a telly. ;)

Yeah watch it, i'm curious of your opinion about it! ;)
Especially since you love "the haunting", both films share a certain ambiguity because of their tormented lead character...another great one film like this is "The innocents" from "Turn of the screw" by Henry James.
I'd say that "Full Circle"'s story is close to another creepy and more well known film, "Don't look now".
I"ve posted this link because at this time unfortunately there is not a decent dvd/blu ray of this film.
Some of my favorite horror films are the haunted house flicks, like "Full Circle", "The entity", "Burnt offerings", The innocents", "The changeling", "Suspiria", etc.

Guillaume, don't know if you're in the UK but if you are, Film4 are showing Dario Argento's 1980 masterpiece 'Inferno' tonight... not as good as 'Susperia' but way better than 'Mother Of Tears'... it's showing at 1.20 am, preceeded by utterly bizarre low-budget flick 'Basket Case', a film I haven't seen since I was a teenager, happily watching stupidly bloody video nasties on VHS...

Master Ray, i'm not in the UK i live in France, but thanks for the tip!
Dario Argento is one of my very favourite directors (i even created a blog about him and his films!)..."Inferno" is great, it looks like a surreal, labyrinthic nightmare full of haunting visions (the underwater scene, the Verdi scenes...) and with great style and visuals...i must admit i had fun with "Mother of Tears" despite it is flawed (it should have been better budgeted)!
My favourite Argento films are "Phenomena" (wonderful horror fairy tale, stylish and haunting), "The Stendhal Syndrome", "Opera", "Deep red" and "The bird with the crystal plumage" but i like all his works, overall, even his lesser works.
My others favourite directors are Michael Mann and John Carpenter.

It's nice to meet people with similar interests!

For me, it's a toss-up between 'Suspiria' and 'Opera' as my fave Argento film, 'Phenomena' being a close third.  'Tenebrae' is probably in 4th place.  Good to see TSS getting some love, a really under-rated picture!

And for any NMA fans who also like horror films and have no idea what me and Guillaume are on about... investigate the works of Dario Argento.  Bloody great.

Evening Guillaume,

I,m with you on "The changeling", another film with good scare and no blood.

"The changeling" is very much in tone like "Full Circle"! ;)
It is a pretty good film, creepy (i like the seance scene) and George C.Scott delivers a solid performance in it, he was a really good actor.

From this list i've seen only "The Monster club" (not bad, a fun anthology) and "Lifeforce" which i really like, a crazy mix between horror, sci-fi and vampire tale...i like the films from his director Tobe Hooper ("Texas chainsaw massacre 1 & 2", "Funhouse", "Poltergeist"...).
I own the dvd of "Asylum" but i haven't watched it yet...if you like british horror films i guess that you like the Hammer Films? ;)

I loved LIFEFORCE as a teenager (mainly because of the copious nudity) and watched it a few weeks back on Netflix... a movie that treads that fine line between 'awful' and 'brilliant'...

Another UK horror movie I truly adore is 'Theatre Of Blood'... great cast, witty script and a gorgeous soundtrack...

Any love for the early 80's TV series 'Hammer House Of Horror'..?

Rah! Rah! Rah! We're going to smash the oiks!

"Mother of Tears" had a bit of this crazy vibe, with the gorgeous naked evil girl and people becoming crazy in the streets ha ha!
I agree that "Lifeforce" is between "awful" and "brillant", it has some brillant stuff and visuals but also some cheesy (on purpose?) stuff...i still like it, though!
It's good to hear that there's love for old school horror movies on this forum! 8) 8)

I have good memories of this one! darkly funny!
Another one in the same ground was "Dr Phibes".

Any love for the early 80's TV series 'Hammer House Of Horror'..?

It was great, i remember a few episodes like the one with Dirk Benedict possessed and betrayed by a living tattoo...
a very creepy tv series was in the 80's "The Hitchhiker", more recently i quite liked the "Masters of Horror" tv series from directors Dario Argento, Joe Dante, John Landis, John Carpenter...

Yes, lots of love, got the box set, remember it scaring the pony and trap out of me in 1981, or was it 1982? remember it was on Friday nights at 9pm.

Yes, total hammer fan (the film studio, not MC hammer)

I'll lend it to you if you haven't got it. Guillaume, the Dirk Benedict infected with a spreading tattoo Hammer, that was from a series of cheaply made Cinema releases, around the same time, not the TV series, sorry, not trying to be picky, after all, it was a long time ago. I do remember ITV showing the Hammer films Summer holidays, 10.30pm Wednesday nights, 1984, the tattoo film was one of them. God, that sounds sad that I remember that, I should have got out more and found a nice girlfriend !!
