Non NMA gigs you just got home from or are going to
« on: September 17, 2013, 11:43:29 PM »
Its wierd for me to see some of the bands mentioned here that I wouldn't have expected an NMA forum to have any liking for:
Rush, Fish, even Yes got some praises in these pages...
I just got back from seeing Roger Waters doing The Wall in London, last week I saw Leonard Cohen in Brum and previously I mentioned already seeing and really liking The Dublin Legends formerly The Dubliners in, again, Birmingham - and i don't want to talk about The Dubliners, Roger Waters or Leonard Cohen in their respective forums - don't know why but I have some big liking for this forum, the NMA forum, and when I get home I just want to talk about my time out HERE!
so can I just start a thread of other gigs you've been to recently...

I saw Rush three times earlier this year in Manchester, Sheffield & Birmingham

I am seeing:

Stereophonics on 14th November
NMA 16th November
Chameleons Vox 21st December

..and the comedian Stewart Lee on 5th October.
Advertising is the rattling of the stick in the swill bucket.

I'm a huge lover of live music, usually see at least one band per month, but due to my current unemployment status, I've had to knock it on the head a bit...

I will be seeing NMA at the Manchester Ritz, also Paradise Lost / Lacuna Coil at the same venue, both in November...

Last gig I saw?  The Who at Manchester Arena... bloody great.

Got the Damned in December with Theatre of Hate and Ruts DC,  wonder stuff, PWEI and Jesus jones also in December, inner terrestrials in November, ferocious dog in October, probably going to Imperial Leisure / King Prawn London date in November and the Something in the Dean festival in September and Dogfest in December as well. Mixed in with 7 NMA gigs before the end of the year (including the Levellers support slot in koln )  it will be a busy but brilliant few weeks.

Not much coming up apart from NMA. Boomtown Rats ( 3 gigs ), 999 with The Defects, and, thanks to recommendations from a few NMA Family members, Ludovico Einaudi. 'Cos I'm cultured ;-)

Saw Rush earlier in the year too  :)
Saw Ruts DC last Friday: really enjoyable.
Going to see Finntroll in October and Amon Amarth in November.
I need more time...

We always burned brightest when no one was watching.

It's been quite a busy year gig wise for me and it's going to continue.  Up to now I've seen

Peter Hook And The Light - Manchester Cathedral 15th Jan
Stiff Little Fingers - Manchester Ritz - 14th March
Dick Valentine (Electric Six Vocalist) - Manchester Soup Kitchen - 6th May
NMA - Preston 53 Degrees - 16th May
Bob Mould - Manchester Academy 3 - 20th May
Chameleons Vox - Ashton Under Line Witchwood - 16th & 17th June
New Order - Jodrell Bank - 7th July
Bad Religion - Manchester Ritz - 19th August

I've booked tickets for
Queens Of The Stone Age - MEN - 20th November
The Pixies - Manchester Apollo - 21st November

And more than likely
NMA - Buckley Tivoli - 15th November
NMA - Manchester Ritz - 16th November
Electric Six - Manchester Club Academy - 6th December
The Damned - Manchester Ritz - 14th December
Chameleons Vox - Manchester Ritz - 21st December

I think I'll have to take it easy next year or I could end up embroiled in a messy divorce  :D

Went to Dreadzone at Scala on Thursday night. Almost danced my feet right off, which made for a painful Friday.  ;D

But seriously, they were brilliant, as they always are.
No one cares anymore where you've been
So you find a quiet place to shed that old skin
You won't need it again

Ron B - PLEASE give us a report on the Hawk gig - I'm still half impressed with the stuff they come out with - Blood/ Onward, they're pretty good records - I know they're playing Warrior on this tour - A Lemmy driven beast of an LP and they're playing it with Dibsy on bass???
Please; tell me they were good - man - I hope you enjoy the night.
Lostock - what a list! You gonna get to the Damned gig in Manc? Hope it's a good un.
Steph - is that Rat and BRIAN James? Should be good
Moontan (great name - did you get it from that great Golden Earing record?) and Danny - well - I was a huge Rush fan when I was a kid - For me they lost the plot a bit around Power Windows for at least 25 years!!!! but they've got it together again - ah I shouldn't say that really - I'm sure they were always a great live band but good grief those records from the nineties - they were awful huh?  Still - fantastic band - Alex Lifeson is the only lead guitar player that makes me stop what I'm doing when he solo's - his solo's are as abstract as Captain Beefheart's mind.
Probably my favourite guitar player. Did you see his rock and roll hall of fame speech?  Totally Alex!

Anyway - it was good to see some response from this, thanks for that folks - I'll be tripping out to Salford tomorrow to see some kind of techno classical variation on Joy Division stuff - I shall let you know if it was worth the train fare.

There's been another Chameleons Vox gig announced for the 22nd of November at Eric's in Liverpool which of course I would like to attend but that would be 3 nights out on the trot!! The dilemma is if I go it could bring forward my potentially messy divorce
