Half way through an interesting book I picked up cheap in a charity shop, 'Jack The Ripper' by Andrew Cook.  It's about... well, I'm sure you can figure that out for yourself, but whats interesting about this one, other than the multitude of other books, is how it puts forward the theory that there was actually no such person as Jack The Ripper, just a string of unrelated killings (in a very violent time) that were strung together by reader-hungry newspapers to create hype and make money... really interesting stuff.

Hmm, media-hype thrown out to scare the public.. the more things change, eh?

 ;)

I've just finished the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time.

I eventually got a little frustrated with the restrictions imposed by the nature of the narrator. I wonder if the author did too as it seemed to rush to an end after quite a slow build. Ultimately an interesting read though

Really enjoying John Cleese's autobiography...

... although it is one of those bloody annoying ones that ends just as the subject is about to get famous... so none of the stuff about Python, Fawlty Towers, A Fish Called Wanda, no, you'll have to buy the follow-up for THAT good stuff...  >:(

What the heck, it's a good read.

I love this book because I live in Swindon ( yes, all the places are real) and I  work with Autistic children and young adults.

my younger son is has ASD, which is part of the reason I read the book.

from my point of view he seems to have more flexibility in his abilities than Christopher in the story. He certainly copes (with support) in mainstream education at present.

Every case really is different. I have worked with many children who fall within the spectrum somewhere and they will share some of the same traits/conditions but two are never the same.
I work in a mainstream school and am currently working in the nursery with 3/4 year olds. I also am a mentor for a young person who is every colour of that rainbow !

All I can say is that you must have the patience of a Saint!

Maths is my boy's thing. Numbers have patterns and patterns can be replicated. If 4+6 = 10, 400+600 must be 1000 etc
He's a very good reader too ("free reader").

But present him with the opportunity to play with lego or cars or interact with family or friends and you get a very different proposition.

We're very grateful for the support we've had from the nursery, the school, the council Early Autism Service (that used a version of early intervention that worked wonderfully for him) and our SLT.

Just started reading At Home by Bill Bryson https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7507825-at-home?ac=1

If it is anything like A Short History Of Nearly Everything it should be entertaining and full of interesting facts! :o

Halfway through  'Getcha Rocks Off' by Mick Wall, author of a great many rock biographies, but this is his own life story... pretty entertaining, although his multiple and extended stories about his sex life are a bit TMI...  ::)
