Brave by Rose Mcgowan...  picked it up cheap in FOPP and was expecting a relentless cavalcade of man-hating stuff as her social media posts might indicate... but it's actually a really interesting and somewhat shocking book abut how young women get abused in 'Hollywood'   :-\

The Outsider by Stephen King
Audiobook again and again a fantastic, suspenseful story and for those who liked the Mr. Mercedes Trilogy...there are connections.

Nearly finished 'How Does It Feel' by Mark Kermode... loving it.  Mr Kermode, for those of you who don't know him, is a much lauded film critic from the UK, and he's written some great books about film, but this one focuses on the hugely unsuccessful bands he's been in over the years (but had a heck of a lot of fun with!)... including a band who once supported NMA.  I like to wonder if Justin said, at some point, 'mate, your music isn't all that great... but you seem to like films so perhaps take up film criticism as a living?'   ???   ;)

Started reading this ten years ago, never finished. Why isn't it like the movie? (What a dope I was to think that way.)

Picked it up again.....man, it is very good. And, yes, it is like the movie (all your favorite bits are in the book); it's just that the book is all flashback. The story of Spartacus is told from the point of view of others. It's definitely an unconventional way to tell a simple narrative, but I am really loving the book. It is very good. Plus it contains great scenes and characters that aren't in the film but should have been.

Been reading a lot of David Sedaris's books recently. Very amusing and entertaining. Also love his radio programs.

Reading a legendary book in non-fiction: "The Making Of The Atomic Bomb."

Very dense book. Much info. Book is telling all about all the 19th century scientists and their discoveries. About 150 pages in and they are still discovering parts of the atom. I guess the WWII stuff won't be until page 600 or so. I'm sticking with it because it is darned interesting.

Interesting point to discuss.

Obviously we listen to the same song or album more than once. We see the same movie more than once. But the same book more than once?

Songs, albums, movies, TV episodes are short enough that enjoying them a second time does not take away much time from one's lifespan. But a book takes anywhere from a week to months to read. That time would be better spent reading a book never read before, no?

I have read a few books more than once...but they were short little novels ("Of Mice And Men," "Barabbas"). "Moby Dick" is the greatest book (hell, the greatest work of art) I have ever experienced. But no way would I want to spend another month of my time re-reading it again. I would rather in that month's time read new books.

I have a lot of books and most of them I won`t put them into the litter without re-reading ....
Some books are like songs , they are growing, because first reading you are perhaps in a bad mood, a lot of other things are spinning around in your brain, but later
re-reading it you find some more interestings things, details and informations worth to think about and to follow to get more informations about the idea of that book ...

Whirlwind, try
Fridjof Capra - The Tao of Physics

I know, I`m silly, so I re-readed it 2 x and I know now , I`m understanding less than 50%, but that was worth and not wasted time reading it :)
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

Absolutely not.

I just looked up some info on that book...are you serious recommending that? The book deals with sub-atomic physics, S matrix theory, and eastern mysticism and philosophies. Reading a book like that would be the equivalent of taking 90 sleeping pills.

Look, I am currently reading "The Making Of The Atomic Bomb." It deals with physics and chemistry and mathematics on a level only Einstein-ian geniuses could really fully grasp....but at least all that is tied to the very exciting and dramatic story of World War II.  You want me to read a book about quantum mechanics tied to Taoism? I pass. Now if you can recommend a book about physics tied to the body of Angelina Jolie, I'll read that (and look at the pictures).
