Lord Freud saying disabled people should work for less than minimum wage in fact £2 a hour. Then Cameron claiming that he cared what about the bedroom tax that effects many disabled people. Just how low can these people get  !

Personally, I think that Cameron bringing up his deceased child in his recent speech as a reason why his party would NEVER hurt the NHS (when they're already dismantling it as quickly as they can, just in case they don't get in again next year and they miss out on their big payday) was the real low point...

The death of a child is a truly horrible thing for any parent to bear...could any parent actually do that?  In the case of this awful government, and such a morally bankrupt Prime Minister, I genuinely believe that this is the case and it shocks me right to the core...  :-[

My take.

The sooner we understand that the NHS is apolitical. Ie it really doesn't matter if the Tories, UKIP, Labour, Socialist Workers Party or anyone else are in power, it will NEVER be able to keep up with demand.

An aging population, immigration, people going for inappropriate reasons, alcohol consumption, allowing multiple fertility treatments, the growth of cosmetic surgery on the NHS and so on.

We can rant about striking, the "evil Tories" and lack of funding, but the facts are the NHS is a behemoth that consumes more and more of our taxes and will never have enough.

If we remove the political bias, we need to start making some tough choices about what treatments are NHS and what need to be the personal responsibility of the individual. And of course means testing will be required as well to protect the poor.

One way is public private partnership, NOT privatisation. There is no way the politicians will ever privatise it, as they know it is a massive voting suicide note, but I suspect you already know that when you are venting about "privatisation". If you have proof of complete privatisation I would love to hear it, but even the "bete noire" Thatcher never dared to do that, you think a slimy weakling like Cameron will? I don't think so!

And yes, we need to talk about another penny or more on NI, and this time actually USE that penny on front line NHS and not prop up pensions or use it for other political purposes. I suspect most people will go with a small raise in NI.

So time to face some apolitical truths people, time to realise that we cannot keep blindly blaming successive governments and look at ourselves.

As for "using" his son. I don't like Cameron, or indeed wierdy Milliband, but can we not conceive that he might actually really be grateful as a father for the treatment his disabled son had on the NHS? Have we become that politically hardened that our hearts are stone? I hope not.

Some things need to be brought above politics, both people's and politicians. No offence my friends, but rants like ours are part of the problem not the solution. The NHS is still there, it will be there in a decade, the discussion is what cash will it need, are we able and willing to fund it, will we be responsible and not overuse it and can we control the demand on it by not overpopulating the country.

PS this probably should all be in the politics thread!  :)

Ldopas - Love that post and there's a hell of lot to get my teeth into there  ;D .

But you're right this should be in the politics thread ( or you could use it as an excuse to re-activate the Destruction of the NHS thread  ;) ) because I reckon this thread is just the right place to have a little sound off when you feel the urge to have a little "AARRGGHH!!!!!)

Idopas, what a brilliant post, and a great reaction to my own... I can't deny that anyone mentioning the NHS is like touching a raw nerve.  Your post was a lot more rational and calm than mine!

But it is an emotive issue with me, as a former NHS employee who loved working there.  I know a lot of health-care professionals and I'd struggle to find a single one of them who would go along with what the Tories are doing to the NHS.  It's not just blind Tory-hatred... but let's not forget that Cameron and his government have lied about SO many things since they got into power.  And I don't trust them with the NHS, not one bit.

The NHS is very far from perfect and they could spend that money in a far better way.  That much is so true.  But I really am not liking what I'm hearing from my friends in the NHS and the way things might be going.

**** it, I don't like privatization anyway, look at the railways in this country.  Over-expensive, often running badly and STILL requiring government bailouts every year.  Not to mention the whole tens-of-billions required for the whole HS2 thing... um, aren't the railways supposed to be non-government funded since privitisation?

I'll do my best to follow this up with some facts shortly...

Abso-*******-lutely agree with that Anna. It massively important to be positive I say, and yes I also believe what you put out you get back from the universe, people and opportunities.

When I first graduated I got a job in London and they sent me on a course. I don't remember anything about that day course except the aussie trainer said at the end; " whatever else you do in business and life, for gods sake don't forget to smile"! I don't always, as its sometimes difficult, but when I can I do and it makes me feel better. I'd advocate that to everyone.

All the bullshit that circles us is just that, bullshit. In our outer orbit politics and other detritus but its the inner orbit that we can control and pick and choose what is in it I logicalise. People, friends, business associates, sphere of opportunity if you like.

Well that is my logic, apologies if that sounds "closet hippy" as I'm a million miles from hippy I assure you!  ;)

Well I bow to you in the fact you've worked in it, I've only used it now and again and it was and still is excellent.

I'm for and against privatisation. I do use the railways and I find them expensive yes, but mostly excellent. The trains certainly I use now and again in the North West are usually on time and spotlessly clean.

My issue with nationalising stuff is we spend most of our time, and rightly, ranting the government can't run a pissup in a brewery then want them (most haven't run a sweetshop let alone a business) to run macrocosmic industries.

My laptop keeps crashing for no good reason whatsoever...   >:(

So if 'Master Ray' disappears for a bit, you'll know why...

(pause)

Wow, am I now referring to myself in the third person?  Shit, I seriously need to get a grip...

Dodgy laptops are a true pain in the arse. No doubt you have a sneaky virus doing its job. Are you up to date with your AV software. ?

Viruses and costly AV software, the Worlds biggest legalise con trick.  >:(

Not sure if it's a hardware or software problem, my laptops a bit battered thanks to much use (the hinges at the back are quite cracked and the screen is leaning a bit to the left, not quite connected to the main body of the laptop...)

Then again, is it possible that clicking on links from dodgy Slovakian porn sites could cause a problem?

(note to anyone who knows me... This. Is. A. Joke.)  ;)

I take it you were an emergency tax code or one that you shouldn't have been on when you started work.
Yes the wheels of government seem to turn slowly except when you owe them money.

OK, all these news stories about 'Mad Frankie Fraser'... a UK short-arse little wakner 'gangster' who died today... and he's being regarded as some kind of 'legend'...  >:(

If anyone has some respect for the little cnut, do some research... anything he ever said about the gangster stuff he boasted about has been proven wrong... he got put in prison for practically anything he ever did, that's how unsuccessful he was as a criminal... yet some folks regard him as something to be admired???

If you're into spoonerisms, can I just say... what a cathetic punt   ::)

OK, 'Black Friday'...  >:(

Surely just some ******* idiotic marketing gimmick to get easily-led fools to max out their credit cards?

OK, it pissed me off because I nipped over to ASDA to get a sandwich before work and was met with a huge queue of 300-odd agitated people trying to get in, not to mention a whole bunch of security guys and, get this, POLICE (who surely have better and more important things to be getting on with)... needless to say, I didn't get my sandwich.

When the **** did this become a big thing in the UK?
