Coldplay and U2. The most boring, banal, vacuous music out there. Just my opinion, obviously, because most of the rest of the world seems to think they're brilliant.  :-\

I've tried, but I just can't get into U2. Not my thing at all, so I gave up trying.

I have actually never heard one song by Ed Sheeren  or if I did, it was not memorable enough to recall.

Coldplay's early albums did not seem that bad, their new stuff is sounds like crap in my opinion. I like early U2 especially the albums "War' and "Boy".
Where I'm from is not my home, and neither's where i'm bound.

I'm with you Sozbot. Never really liked U2. Used to dislike them a lot in the 80s. That said, some of their 90s stuff was interesting like Discotheque. I do admit the man can sing, the Edge is a great guitar player.

I like to think I'm very open minded with music (and else) but when I seriously think about it there's really a lot of it I dislike, although it doesn't always relate to the style but just to individual bands.
First of all I listen to so much different stuff, from John Coltrane to Rage Against The Machine, from John Dowland to Kraftwerk... I'm a musician myself, so it does make sense to stay alert and not ignore a good piece of music, whatever direction it comes from.
But there's certainly styles of music I can relate to more, and some I cannot comunicate at all.
I don't really like American hard rock music, bands like Aerosmith, Guns 'n Roses, Van Halen, Rush and all those 80's hair metal dudes. I don't like Whitesnake, Scorpions etc.
On the other hand I have plenty of respect and love for a bit older blues rock bands like The Taste, Free, Humble Pie...
Most of the stuff I go for is acoustic, like Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Cohen, Tim Buckley, but I also love a good distorted guitar sometimes, like all those Crazy Horse records by Neil Young or the Pixies, or Dead Kennedy's.
When it comes to jazz there's a lot of stuff I love there, but there's also one thing I dislike very much and it's called "jazz snobism", it appears in many forms and shapes and is very easily recognizable.
I see a lot of people mentioned Coldplay here as one of the bands very much disliked. I actualy loved the first album, especially the song called "Spies", but I do agree that in the meantime they've been producing mostly rubish.

I can't decide whether a lyric like 'I suppose a rock is out of the question' is a humourous winky-nod to the banality of this genre of music, tongue in cheek and that, or a band who truly believe shit like that would go down well 'wiv da kids'...

Not a fan of DL, but I have to admire a band who refuse to replace their drummer even when he lost an arm in a car crash... that's proper friendship for you.   :-[

Jazz.... I cant stand modern Jazz.  It sounds like someone doing the 23.76 times table in a self-congratulatory style.

Yay  :-*

Nod back to ricka earlier in the thread - sorry fella, no idea what jazz I've heard cos my Dad used to listen to stuff when I was young. Maybe it stems from some long car journey when it was inflicted on us  ;D

Rap
Misogynistic, homophobic, sometimes racist, generally shit. The view of women is in my view particularly degrading.

Not that there isn't some good rap. Just not very much.

Gonna bump this this... now I don't strictly hate rap music.  A lot of it is very good... Public Enemy did some fine, socially aware and truly interesting stuff that really reflected the times that those tracks were written in.

But NWA... a huge cinema hit last year was their bio-pic 'Straight Outta Compton', quite a good film IMO, but wow, did it skirt certain issues.  Yes, they were controversial and I can understand how songs like 'Fuk Da Police' were written and became so popular... kids buying it because they were being all rebellious and stuff...

But those same kids were listening to tunes like 'One Less B itch', 'She Swallowed it' and 'Findum, Fuckum And Flee'... not gonna post them here, but damn, that stuff is just awful and horrendously misogynistic...

Yes, bands like Guns and Roses and Motley Crue did songs about sex, not all of it 'PC', obviously, but it's like Justin Beiber compared to that horrendous stuff!

Can you imagine a white rock band having an acclaimed hit bio-pic made about them (with those same lyrics 'removed from history') if they had lyrics like that?  I doubt it...

So, does that make me a racist?   ::)
