Thought I'd bump this one...

... I always regarded myself as someone who kept on top of the UK music scene... even if the stuff I was hearing wasn't my cup of tea, I'd at least know roughly what they were all about...

Just looked at the forthcoming events at my nearest enormo-arena and there are ten acts listed there who not only can I not name a single song by them but I've never even heard their bloody names in the first place!  And they're playing to over 15,000 people!?!?!

you know you are getting old when one of the few things you can always remember to take with you is the reading glasses you have that all of a sudden you cannot do without  :'(

When musicians that have been around since you were a teen pass away, it suddenly hits you that your time is getting shorter :-\

You are probably right Drummyb. There is little to be gained from being sad about our own mortality. That said, in relation to this topic and such, I think we would have to admit, every time you hear of singer or actor passing away, one you have known for most of your life, as well as being sad for the loss, its often the case you ask yourself - well, how long have I got left ? On both those points I was particularly struck by the death of Rik Mayall last year at just 56.

When you would prefer to stay in and watch a DVD on New Years Eve. .

Been doing that for about 15 years, never liked NYE much!  For me, it's a 'Twin Peaks' marathon and a Thai takeaway with a rather large JD at mid-night whilst I do my traditional thing of watching fireworks explode over the Cheshire plain whilst breaking the taboo of smoking with a SINGLE cigarette...
