"A nightmare on Elm Street" raised the standard of U.S. horror films, a classic. Also like very much "People under the stairs" and have it in my collection, but then again I like anything with Ving Rhames in the cast.

R.I.P. Wes.

I'm sad about Wes Craven's death...i still remember the shock i had when i watched in the late 80's "A nightmare on Elm Street"...powerful, creepy stuff...this film is still one of my favourite horror movies ever.
I watched on dvd last month "The Serpent and the rainbow", one of Craven's very best movies, ambitious eerie and creepy..."Scream" was also great on the big screen (saw it in theaters, back in summer 1997)..."Last house on the left", powerful nasty stuff...even Craven's most minor works like "Red eye", the "Scream" sequels, "Shocker", 'Deadly Friend", "My soul to take", "Cursed"","People under the stairs" were enjoyable...and the man, according to all the people he met, was a true gentleman.
RIP Wes and thanks for all your thrilling works :'(

the best two Nightmare On Elm Street flicks (the first and the third)

He directed the first and the last (7th part called "New Nightmare")...the 3rd was written by Craven but directed by Chuck Russell (who later directed "the blob" and "the mask") ;)

Um yeah.. just testing?   ::)

I had forgotten that, still the second best Nightmare movie.

I'll post this bit from Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, featuring Mr Craven...

Agreed, so sad...

Reading the papers, I see how this tragedy seems to have turned much of the public away from 'OMG, they're coming for us all!' to recognising it as a true humanitarian issue... even the bloody Daily Mail is now talking about how desperate people are fleeing in fear of their lives...

Sadly, I'm sure it won't last.

Hopefully this tragic story can turn the tide of opinion , I know that there has been thousands of other deaths but this one seams to hit home more than any other.

There's been loads this week, every time I put on the radio it seemed that another was announced.

One that I heard first thing this morning, was a guy who I seem to remember told the record buying public not to buy his single, but the band aid single instead. Just 64.

RIP Jim Diamond.

A bit late out of the gate but RIP to Paul Revere from Paul Revere and the Raiders. A lot of people couldn't see past the silly costumes, but they were one of the very best American hard rock bands of the 1960s. He formed them, he hyped them and they wouldn't have had the success they did without him. If you can't see past the silly uniforms, do whatever you need to do to try. There was a great band in there.
And an even more belated RIP to Troggs lead singer, Reg Presley. You can keep the Elvis. Reg always meant a lot more to me. I don't think it's possible to make rock n roll as elemental and unaffected as the Troggs. They never pretended to be anything they weren't, and damn did he love sex. He sang about it in pretty much every song and, not only that, he gave it some deserved dignity. I was very sad to hear Reg Presley died last year-ish. There can never be another like him, or band like his.

That truly is a bummer about Steve Strange. No matter what every person more hip than me said, I really enjoyed the first Visage album.
I realize I kind of stagger out of the RIP gate but then I suppose the deceased won't mind. I just read that Dieter Moebius died recently. He was one of the most innovative electronic composers I've know of. He was half of Cluster, with his partner Roedelius (80 and still going strong). He was also in the group Harmonia who a lot of people, myself included, think is some of the most original and listenable electronic music out there. Him and his various collaborators (Eno was a common one) explored the warmer side to what Kraftwerk were doing.
This goes all the way back to last February but I mention him because he was a close personal friend. Tod Dockstader was another electronic music pioneer or what might be called avant garde or musique concrete. Both me and Tod shared a dislike of those terms. He's only avant garde if, say, early Tangerine Dream or Eno's ambient music is too far out for you. And Tod did the bulk of his work in the 1950s. That he was a genius, there's no doubt. But he was self-effacing, incredibly funny as well as wise. I think of him a few times each day and feel his absence. The world is diminished by it. If you like music from the outer limits, Tod Dockstader is one of the very first I'd suggest you check out. RIP Tod, and amen.

Helmut Schmidt died some hours ago
German chancellor 1974 - 1982
96 years (he loved his ciggies `til summer, the only one allowed on tv `til now)
He preferred direct speach, not this one hour talks without saying anything real most of the ones beeing in a top position later
R.I.P Schmidt Schnautze
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?
